Ray
Hi Guys I recently posted a question which moroku? (possible in the wrong section) and got some good advice. My local gun shop has a 30in barrel 800 for sale at a very good price. I want to use it for clays in most of the disciplines my local club offers, Sporting, Skeet, DTL. Compact etc. As the guns fits so well I’m happy to pay the money to have the thing converted to multi choke I understand around £300. I appreciate I will not get the money back but that’s not really the priority. To get to the question, as the 800 is a skeet gun what would be the consequences / problems using it for the other disciplines if any ?. Thanks Ray
Toombsy
I had one of those for a few months - great guns... for skeet and short range sporting targets in its original form. Wish I still had it. It will never make a decent DTL gun though mate. It's too light and it'll mount wrong - you need to be able to see plenty of the rib when shooting DTL so the gun shoots high purposely. If you're deadly serious about being able to shoot all those disciplines well, and enjoy them all equally, you WILL need a trap gun to get the most out of yuor DTL sport. But, having that gun choked is an option, but if the gun price added onto the price to have it altered amounts to around the £700 mark I wouldn't bother.... for another £100 you will be able to get a decent newer Miroku multi-choke that will have some trade-in value - probably more than the choked 800. That, I reckon, is a better proposition and makes more sense.
Gordon R
The 800 must be 30 years old now. If it is a 30", I would be surprised if it was a Skeet gun - they would be 27" or 28". If it is already choked - have it changed to 1/4 and 1/2. You don't really need much else. The cost of multi-choking would be about the same as the gun is worth. Depends what you call a good price. £300 for an absolute minter is my idea of bargain. £500 would represent nothing like a bargain. You can get a lot newer MK38 for less than I suspect you would end up paying.
