What would you do?

So, I have two air rifles and one shotgun.

The air rifles came first for rat duties in the garden, then I got hooked on shooting and got my SGC.

As the rats seemed to have moved to an inconvenient place for shooting them, I have put traps down which seem to be doing an admirable job - as I live in the country and have chickens, I know I'll never be completely rid of them!!! As a result the air rifles rarely come out, but I tend to clay shoot at least once per fortnight, sometimes once per week.

Now I have an opportunity to 'trade in' the air rifles, potentially for a cheap shotgun which I will use as a spare/rough gun (or for friends to use if they show an interest in clay shooting), I could then purchase a cheaper air rifle for the odd rat-based job.

So - the air rifles in question are:

BSA Lightning XL - Beech stock 3-9*40 Hawke Scope - .22, immaculate

Crossman Biathlon Trainer with a 4*40 Scope (unknown manufacturer) - .177 - this is putting out about 8ft lbs and this was used purely for tin can plinking, never to try and take a rat.

I am tempted to trade them in and buy a cheap (dare I say...) SMK which will put out 10-10.5ft lbs for the odd rat - and get a shotgun out of the deal also....This being the case I would probably take the 4*40 scope off of the Biathlon Trainer air rifle.

What would you guys do?:hmm:

Cheers

Could do, I suppose - though the Crossman wouldn't fetch much, but the gun shop does have a decent stock of very cheap sbs 12g guns, and a few single barrel shotguns too..................

I think I'll take them both along and see what is offered/what deal they want to do - I can always bring them all back home.

:hmm: Keep the BSA, a great full power springer which will never let you down. My dad has owned a lightning for the last 4 months shot thousands of pellets through it and loves it. I shoot a PCP but still enjoy having a shoot with his springer and find consistency shot after shot after shot. There was a review last month in either airgunner or air gun world (cant remember wich) reading a fantastic review, and these are tested by professionals with many years experiance..... "trust the pro's".

As for SMK i have owned them in the past, but they are a basic, budget manufactorer. SMK are great rifles but i've turned into a pcp snob (sorry) and wouldnt use any other rifle as affective on quarry as a pcp............at the moment !!! KEEP THE BSA  :good::yes:
