Silma Supreme

I was wondering if anyone had any views, experiences, comments on the Silma Supreme range.

There's one in a gun shop near me which is a 30" fixed choke ejector with a selectable trigger (the selector is on the trigger like the new Franci's - any comments?) in good looking condition (to be honest I think it has hardly been used) for £275. I'm mainly going to be using the gun as a sporting gun, mainly clays, but also occasional pigeons etc.

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

Oly.

Wouldn’t be this one by any chance would it?

Looks a nice bit of wood in the stock, so don’t forget to look at the rest of the gun.

Hi there Oly and Salmon,

Re the Silma I've had both a 20 and 12, both very good guns that shot well and both had very nice wood as you've commented. The only thing to look out for is the cocking mechanism. Like many o/u guns they have cocking rods that run through the floor of the action, however unlike most where these rods connect or bear directly to or against the hammers for recock upon opening, the Silmas bear against an articulated cocking link under the hammers. This cocking link/joint between the rods and recock bar broke twice on the 20 during my ownership. It did not affect the recock of the gun but would sometimes cause ejection difficulties as the rods came fwds after firing. The way to check is with the barrels off the gun, uncocked i.e hammers down, draw the rods forward with your finger, they should both stop level with each other. If one comes forward further than the other then it's a good bet that the link has failed. Also check that the gun ejects consistantly with snap caps.

Cheers John
