Jazzyjay Posted July 3, 2009 Report Share Posted July 3, 2009 Hi all I have just been fortunate to be able to borrow my work mates HW80 over the weekend and all i can say is Jesus what a rifle, i have a very big garden and on the first shot took out a pigeon with a head shot at about 40 yards. no bull!! nothing short of amazing! Devilishdave Posted July 3, 2009 Report Share Posted July 3, 2009 Not amazing at 14 I used to use a .177 HW77 at a fair bit further out than that my mate had an HW 80 and he was lethal with the thing cracking rifles. of particular note is the quality of the triggers for the cost. Thus being your shot...tut tut tut..bad practice fella..5 round group atleast before firing at live qaurry..just to make sure!! You could use my rifles without checking them and if his mate is the same he wouldn't have lent it without knowing it was shooting ok. Cracking shot mate. The HWs are good rifles. I liked the 80 myself when I was a kid but it was too heavy for me so I ended up with a BSA Supersport carbine. Not quite as refined but a great kids gun! A man of your experience should know the answer to that :blink: Maybe because not everyones eyes are like yours and not everyone holds the gun like you do. My mate had zeroed the gun himself but i then zeroed it to my own eye before i decided to shoot the pigeon or should i say the rat with wings! I meant first shot at live quarry(sorry)And as for the back drop from the shot, i have nothing but open fields beyond my back garden and new that the shot was a safe one, i always think before i pull that trigger,its good practise! I must say though that my mate seems to think the rifle is legal and it has been checked but i have been out shooting rabits with it tonight and me thinks it may have a little more power than he says! Dave your spot on...How can I shoot someone else rifle when my postion and hold would be different aswell as eye relief and eye position?? Im happy jazzy jay that you check zeroed...it makes for a responsible gun owner...we wouldnt want badly injured pigeons dropping into nieghbours back gardens, ******** wifes out...!! No you shouldn't :blink: They may be a pest species, and covered by the general licence but shooting one in your garden isn't particularly good form and possibly illegal. As for blatting pigeons in the back garden, what's the justification? Crop damage or health & safety (disease etc). You can't just kill them because they're there and you want to. As i said before i have a very big garden. I have two very big veg patches which the blighters just won`t leave alone. I also have two young girls who seem to be always treading in there poo. Dump dump dump dump, thats all they seem to do! If i do decide to shoot one though i really try my best to make sure none of the neighbours see it! Am i right?
