woodyfirst
We all like to eat some, and keep some in the freezer for decoys, but what do you do with the majority of your shot birds? I've recently started shooting more reglularly, and I've found myself with tonnes of pigeons on my hands...I'm getting a bit bored of pigeon for tea, as are my friends, family and ferrets!!! any tips? M ROBSON
Sell any extra to you local game dealer, it will at least cover the cost of your ammo.
woodyfirst
is he guaranteed to want them? s'pose, the worst he can say is no thanks!
Guest Mr Pieman
Remove the breasts, package nicely and give to neighbours, friends, family and workmates PP
Teal
Butchers might take them, mine sells them at £1.50 each (breast). Someone's making money! Game dealer will give you 20-30p probably.
Staffs-Shooter
Ours pays 10p!

Guest flightline
Some country pubs (free houses best) are pleased to have them-just ask where you are a known to the landlord.
Highlander
As with (almost) everything else these days it's never gonna be that simple thanks to the sprouts in Brussels!!! (Wanna know why I call 'em sprouts, 'cause that's what they do to me...a lot of hot air!) New EU food hygiene regulations will be introduced in the UK from the 1st of January 2006. This means that anyone who sells their game (including game birds, ducks, geese, rabbit, hare, and pigeon - even rook and squirrel) to a wildgame handling establishment, will need training as a 'competent person'. It is likely that it will be a requirement for shooters to have enough knowledge to ensure that food safety is not compromised. Next thing you'll need is a stainless steel butchery room, washing facilities and just about every other device they can think of to make life just that little bit safer. Mind you they've not insisted on a geiger counter YET! and you think you'll be safe with an ID card???
Guest Mr Pieman
Highlander, the new regs won't affect us selling our wares in fur or feather, only if we process our game etc. It looks as though anyone holding DSC 1 will be classed as competent for fur, with a bit of a top up required for feather. Cheers PP
Highlander
Mr Pieman...with a handle like that surely you don't just leave them in fur 'n' feather? go on give us the recipies or at least tell us why Mr Pieman.
red_stag88
I can tell you, his cooking is only limited to pigeons. Originaly he was thrown unto the earth under the guise of Pigeon Pieman. Then he forgot his password.
hill billy
It all depends on the size of the bag i get if i only get 1 or 2 goin for a walk then i just pull the breast off of them then and there and give them to the farmer but if i get a lot like 150 i give a few to various people and sell the rest to the game dealer
Guest Mr Pieman
The young Mr red Stag_88 remembers well! I did indeed used to be Pigeon Pieman and then crashed the PC and forgot the password , so needed to re register! But life is more than just pigeons. I have registered with the local authority as a 'meat handling site' and can process meat in a converted store. I can process game, rabbits, pigeons and venison from shot to overwrapped finished cuts etc. There's no real money in it but it makes the meat look good and hopefully encourages people to sample and enjoy what we shoot PP PS There are several recipies on the forums if you have a look around

Keep up the good work. A little smile for the day...Simple Simon (maybe SimpleSalmon) met a pieman going to the fair. Said Simple Simon to the pieman 'what have you got there?'... PIES you fool said the pieman!

If so you may be getting a bit of business, were really getting robbed up north.
Dorset Bumpkin
Rather than sell to the game dealer why not sell direct to the butcher? I am also always looking out for barter opportunities. My best one was pigeon breasts for scallops off a diver!
