roadkill
Well this week i have had the biggest reality check to man kind . Here was me last year when beating thinking how easy it is to set up a shoot and all that is done is to fill some feeders .... Well the rose tinted specs are well and truly off This season i am doing a part time underkeepers job and my god the stress and hard work that has to be put in these shoots is unreal I don't think thee is not one bone in my body what isn't aching after the two days of delivery and moving about 6 tone of pellets and god knows how many miles of walking i have done checking pens and electric fences . And not to mention the worrying at night that all will be ok in the morning ... But hey its better than watching the tv lol

Boromir
Ive been helping out the keeper on my estate for a week now and I know why he is in a bad mood most the time Checking the release pens has got no holes in it and fixing them if they have, then putting out the feeders and filling them up then clipping the pheasants and then deliver them to there release pens. Then come back and clean out the rearing pens. But I would rather do that than my other job which is knapack spraying over hilly ground. GW80
I know what you mean, on our shoot it's my mate (who's the landowner) and myself who seem to do all the running about, the others seem to think along as they pay their dues the birds just turn up by magic and they get their shot on a saturday, the first one this season that complains that the birds aren't great this year is going to get the sharp end of my tongue and told in no uncertain terms if he can do better he's more than welcome!!! My Boss had a good idea a few years back ! All the guns had to pay an extra £50 on the subs . They got a fiver back for every hour they worked. The result was we had more than enough to pay my mates as casual,s to get the jobs done (cutting rides , birds out etc etc ). Result was everyone was happy and all the work got done properly ! lolol (and the cash left over went to the beer fund on the beaters shoot .) That was a few years ago, these days the guns actually enjoy a day out and I nearly always have help on the days I realy need it .
