Andy17
hi all, I purchased a webley pump about a year ago. It worked fine for six months then stopped working for no apparent reason. I sent it to get fixed at the gun shop and received it back last week being told it had been fixed. Tryed to pump the gun up this morning and it goes BANG again. The air is leaking from underneath the gauge where it screws into the pump itself, I think. Has anyone got any ideas on how to seal it and make it air tight??? what materials to use?, Has anyone else had problems with these pumps?. Sending it back to the gun shop is out of the question as its taken them six months to get it back to me after telling me it would take a month max lol. Any ideas would be apreciated. yis andy
roblade
Hi Andy, im not too sure anbout pupms but if this sort of thing were to happenon a dive bottle i think i would check to see if the gauge unscrews from the block and try wrapping a few layers of P.T.F.E. tape round it (the thin white tape plumbers use)then screw it back on and see if it makes a difference. (DOP NOT DO THIS IF IT IS STILL UNDER GAURANTEE!!!! IT WILL VOID IT!) But from the sounds of it when something goes BANG on these things its usually a sign that an oring has gone or a seal has blown. So it might be needing a trip back to webley im affraid all the best ROB
Andy17
thanks for the reply rob, the guarantee is finished now, I did try some PTFE tap but because I also charge up an FAC air rifle I think the pressure becomes to high. I am probably going to sound stupid but what about Araldite?? the pump is gonna get binned if I can't fix it.... I will jus buy a bottle later. But with Araldite and the soem PTFE tape wrapped around surely no air could get out if I applied it properly?? lol just a thought. yis andy
old rooster
If you are going to bin it I'll buy it off you. You shouldn't be able to exceed the max working pressure of the pump so as someone else says it's probably a knackered O Ring seal. I bought a pump second hand when I got my Axsors, the previous owner had put PTFE tape around the joints on that for some reason and I've yet to strip it to sort it out. Likeliest seal to look for IMHO is the one that goes behind the decompressing screw. O Rings are easy enough to get hold of so it's just a case of determining which size you need. These things run at pretty high pressure, 100bar is around 1,400psi !! to relate it to a pressure we are perhaps more familiar with. Thats about 14 times the pressure in your normal air compressor or equivalent to about 50 times the pressure in a normal car tyre. Most guns run at well over 100 bar anyway so the seals need to be pretty good. I've got to replace the main seals inside one of the Axsors as having disturbed them while tuning the gun they've not resealed properly, guess they have slightly extruded in use and possibly hardened off a bit as well. Andy17
hi, I will have another look at it . If I can't sort it I will let you know. Just to let you know in advance it does have some scratches on it from where parts of the pumnp have been tightened up and from general use. If I can't sort it I will pm you. yis andy.
