joeshaw08
Gave the oats a go today as the weather looked like it would stay good for a while. I've never shot over oats previously as I've never known anybody have any success over it. I had a little go yesterday but the rain was so heavy I stayed there for about 10 minutes! Wuss I know. There are alot of laid patches on these crops so I thought the wirly would be perfect for it. And to my suprise, it worked! I just had the decoys on the rotary and didn't change them for real birds as they were doing the trick. Unfortunatly I hadn't charged the battery beforehand so it only lasted an hour. I shot 16 while that was on with some pretty challenging shots. I did end up losing a few in the crops but Harvey (my springer) did a brilliant job of finding most of them, all blind retrieves which I am well chuffed about. Then my stepdad decided to come up for an hour, and he got a nice left and right with his first two shots. Unfortunatly it was downhill from there. Managed 22 in total, but lost 8 in the crops. Not bad for a couple of hours sport and will be going down tomorrow with a fully charged battery and some dead birds on the magnet

joeshaw08
He's a cracking dog, he'll sit in the hide all day like a Lab without making a fuss, but he'll work his **** off to retrieve the birds and working the hedgerows when you want him too. Went back out there today and shot another 28 (a Personal Best!) but didn't have him with me. Lost about 15 in the crops so went back with him later and he managed to find 9 which I was well chuffed about, considering he had no idea where they landed. He's dead steady aswell, I was checking out the springers at the CLA and he was 10 times steadier. I've had a few people ask if they can use him as a stud but he's had the chop real shame that.
