JDsniper Posted August 19, 2009 Report Share Posted August 19, 2009 can any body advice me the best way to trim my labs claws as he does not seem to ware them down as well as my other lab does. I have got a good pair of cutters but i am scared about hitting the vessel as i did this the other day and it was such a effort to stop bleeding Also has any body got any first aid tips if they do start bleeding. teal27 Posted August 21, 2009 Report Share Posted August 21, 2009 if you look carefully you can sometimes see the "quig" as i think its called, just trim a small piece at a time, or some people do try and sand their dogs nails for that reason but if you do make it bleed pull the bleeding nail through a bar of soap and it will help it stop bleeding. SteveH Posted August 21, 2009 Report Share Posted August 21, 2009 I was once told by a vet that if you trim little and often the quick recedes a bit and there is less chance of catching it with the clippers.
