Topgunners
After "clocking" a couple of likely spots on the river at the weekend, I went out last night for an hour before dark to try and get my first wildfowl of the season. I arrived at the lay-by near the river and started walking upstream to where I had chosen to stand. On the way there, my dog flushed out a flock of ducks off the water and I managed to drop 2 of them. One landed in the field behind me and the other in the river. I went to pick up the one and sent the dog in to retrieve the other one. I also dropped a pigeon flying out of the trees. Nice quick start to the season and I moved on to the slight hill for my wait for the geese. I had been there for 3.4 hour or so when I heard the geese in the distance heading my way. I saw them disappear behind the wood and moved slightly to anticipate their flightline, but they had swung over to my left and I managed to catch the outside edge of the "V". I fired 2 shots and hit the one goose, which promptly rolled down the hill to a stop in the grass. I waited till half an hour after dark but no more showed. Popped the dog back in the cage and headed home. Dave K Edited September 3, 2009 by Topgunners
