  1. Saw it years ago in 12 week old partridge. Turned out to be late stage cocci. Baycox sorted it but they were poor birds after it. Get a second opinion and get one (live) if poss to a vet. Some vits and quality grub will help plus lots of fresh clean water.
  2. You can get them from the NGO. They have them on their website. I've had several p!ssed about with over the years with birds let out and traps completely smashed or even taken away. With problem areas I tend to use more cover now like patches in taller crops etc. No sign will put off a determined **** though. It really does get on your t!ts mate.
  3. This from Druimmuir Spaniels website. It's Brilliant. Hope she doesn't mind me posting it IN MEMORY OF THOSE WE HAVE LOVED AND LOST :- If it should be that I grow frail and weak And pain should keep me from my sleep, Then will you do what must be done, For this -- the last battle -- can't be won. You will be sad I understand, But don't let grief then stay your hand, For on this day, more than the rest, Your love and friendship must stand the test. We have had so many happy years, You wouldn't want me to suffer so. When the time comes, please, let me go. Take me to where to my needs they'll tend, Only, stay with me till the end And hold me firm and speak to me Until my eyes no longer see. I know in time you will agree It is a kindness you do to me. Although my tail its last has waved, From pain and suffering I have been saved. Don't grieve that it must be you Who has to decide this thing to do; We've been so close -- we two -- these years, Don't let your heart hold any tears.
  4. I've got both. 12 x 12 sheds and the early timber insulated segdemoor. Segdemoor is good but timber is better. I can put 2000 partridge through the sedgemoor or 1800 pheasants but the night shelter that comes with it is ****. The timber sheds I use are better have wider doors and are taller and were obviously keeper designed. Much better for working in particularly bitting. That said the birds we have had through the segdemoor were great. I had a look at the metal one at a gamefair. In my opinion you can't cool them quick enough when the weather gets warm plus we had to fit our own wire doors to leave the outer door open and the frames are not wide enough to get a poult crate through flat. I told the owner this. They are good but there are better out there for your money.
  5. Don't quite understand your attitude chap. Have you got running dogs yourself or have you never been on the receiving end of hassle from some tosspot driving all over your fields in a pickup or finding deer with their backsides ripped out and left for dead? You can't justify it in anyway. Wrong is wrong wether kids do it or gangs of betting ******. Are you saying its ok? Seems to me that you don't like your 'answer' challenged. Try and keep it civil if you can.
  6. I've watched this post with interest and the answers don't surprise me. I don't have much trouble with running dogs these days because I cull all hares and rabbits deliberately. They may come and look but if theres nothing for them to run on they don't come back for a long time. Deer is a different problem. What troubles me is that people defend these dogmen which I find disturbing. They 'don't live by our rules' is no excuse to turn a blind eye to it. It can't go on. It's not the running hares thats the problem. It's the disturbance. If you had 9 guns turn up for £10k of partridge shooting and the dogmen have been through the night before you'd understand the problem much better. Make no mistake these people are vermin. They are not one for the pot poachers they are organized thieving scum. Not 100% sure of the way forward but I will say this. If my life is endangered then I would not take it lying down. Better to be tried by 12 than carried by 6.
  7. I had the same problem with one of my spaniels. He was for bred for trials but didn't quite make the grade. He was 18 months when I took him beating at the beginning of last season. What I did was keep him at heel off the lead through tall game crops for the rest of the season. With smaller crops where you can see him there was no problem but watch him on hedges down the side of gamecrops. These are often loaded with birds and the temptation to run on is great. Dogging in this year helped no end as did the cooling off period after last season when less game was about.I also made him sit in our release pens amongst hundreds of poults while I fed. I dogged in with him all summer/autumn and he was fine running large amounts of poults with his nose right up their backsides but easily controllable and still dropping to flush. This season he's a different dog but the key is he's maturing. You didn't say how old the dog was. Hope this helps. Just experience and time I think.
  8. I've had one with Cocker rage. To be fair the dog was nuts but intermittently and that is very dangerous. It bit the vet at it first visit for its injection emptying its bowels and tail glands at the same time. He told me it was going to be a big problem and it was only 9/10 weeks old then.It was a black dog with a small white chest blaze. It was from working stock and bred by my boss from proven working stock. It was a freebie too so I was doubly gutted. Another vet told me never to breed with it. I'm a keeper so I've seen a few dogs but never one like this. It bit my daughter badly and totally unprovoked. At the time my missus was preggers so it had to go. A trainer mate took it and could do nothing with it so it was destroyed.Others from the same and previous litters are real stars as are the sire and dam so there you have it. Now don't get me wrong I love working cockers but I'll stick with springers.I'm only posting because some haven't heard of it.Don't let it put you off cockers but a pro trainer told me not to have one for a first dog.Hope this helps.
  9. partridge 35p pheasant 65p duck £1 rabbit £1 hare £3 price is same all season and collected. no grading. cash on collection
  10. Good returns on our ground for pheasant and partridge and many late broods.
  11. I've used both and the powder is far better and goes alot further IMO. The liquid is very expensive. Saying that the powder's not cheap either. Seems to work well though. If the wheat is in a pile before you bag up then spread handfuls over it before you bag it up. If in a trailer with a grain chute just add some as you're bagging up. No science in this just experience.
  12. I love to see the greys but its not often we see them these days. The odd one is occasionally shot but when a gun is in the thick of it its hard to tell a grey from a frenchie when they have burst over a hedge so we can't be too hard on them. Makes me wonder if the mass release of french has helped their decline. Just a thought thats all.
  13. Could be a tawny but don't discount young buzzards. Had 50 killed around one pen and saw them do it with my own eyes. Only young buzzards do it when training to hunt. The adults don't tend to bother.
  14. Think a truce is called for as I think we're on the same side or we should be at least. Buzzards are, and always will be an emotive issue. No man has all the truth, but between us we have to find a way forward. I have no desire to see them destroyed or eradicated but I am in favour of a licensed cull for rogue birds. The Royal Society for the Protection of Buzzards (sorry birds) watch us like hawks if you'll pardon the pun and I know the bad press we get better than you know but joe public wouldn't be happy if keepers **** gold nuggets so lets agree to disagree. This morning again there were five around my pen. 6 more fresh kills and poults scattered all over the place. Understand friend this is frustrating as they are targeting a main pen. You would feel the same frustration trust me.
  15. No arguments with most of what you say however; 1.) It is more than a sport. It is a legitimate business with people and families dependant on the income. 2.) The previous post stated that buzzard predation doesn't happen. That is simply untrue. 3.) It is my right to earn a living. 4.) Read the post. I know theres nothing can be done but don't sit there on your high horse expecting me to smile and be happy about it. Get a life. 5.) I wasn't worrying about buzzards at the march as there weren't any. HAVE A NICE DAY!
