There's None So Blind.......

Coming off he farm yesterday evening and got within 25 yards of the track entrance to the road when a lady driver pulled in. There is a wide-ish spot where two vehicles can just about pass but it's far better for the one to back up where the track widens considerably at the road entrance. She backed up in the usual zig-zag style that some manage, stopped and indicated that I should pull into the wide spot to let her pass. OK, I thought, was about to move and changed my mind. Caught her eye and pointed to the ground. She shook her head, pointed to me and then pointed where I should go. Flashed my lights and again pointed to the ground. She waved her finger around again. Flashed my lights, pointed to her, two fingers to my eyes meaning she should look and again pointed to the ground. No reaction from her. We now have stalemate! I got out of the car and the sparrow hawk which was feeding on a wood pigeon (which I'd probably shot earlier) and had no intention of losing its supper reluctantly attempted to take off carrying the pigeon, couldn't make it so dropped it and away it went. Meanwhile she reversed the other couple of yards and we've plenty of room. I walked over and said that I was sorry I couldn't pull over but could she not see the bird. "Sparrow hawk", she exclaimed in a tone which made it obvious that she'd never seen one before and was really disappointed that she'd missed one now. Well, if she couldn't see one stood on the floor not 10 feet from her it's not surprising.

Got an old boy that lives on site at work, bit of a know it all type. spends at least part of most days stood looking across the farm, some time ago i asked if he had seen the buzzard in the field eating a rabbit he hadn't. I see at least 1 at least once a week and hes never seen one! haven't bothered to tell him about the pair of peregrines
