  1. I strip the gun into three parts, wipe down and spray with Young's 303. I clean any obvious stuck on **** away and then reassemble. The barrels get a scrub through with the phos/bronze brush and then wiped through with the oily mop. Then the whole thing gets a wipe over once again with an oily rag. I was told once that WD40 will eventually fetch the blueing off a gun. Is there any truth in that?
  2. Went and had a shoot at Garlands in Tamworth for the first time yesterday. In keeping with some advice I received, I'm focussing mainly on skeet as the shots presented are pretty repeatable (good for a beginner I'm told.) I've not really enjoyed skeet as much as sporting in the past, but need to "get my eye in" on some fairly consistent birds. Anywho, I walked up to the skeet bit and a couple were just about to start shooting - they kindly asked me to join them so I did. I shot a pretty poor round (even for me) of 7 ex 25 though put a couple of faults right under their guidance (cheers Doug & Judy) They went off for a coffee and I stayed for another round on my own. What do you know, 16 ex 25 and my best ever round on any type of clay!!! Joined the guys for a coffee then went back for a third round of skeet and shot 9 ex 25... About my average. Had a bit of a blast on the compact sporting after that but the less said the better I think! I quite enjoyed Garlands as a whole so I'll be going back.
  3. Unbeknown to me when I joined there's another countryboy on the forum (Country Boy). I've changed my login/user name to Wanderer. Cheers
  4. Oh bum, sorry mate! Countryboy's a name I use on a few forums and I had no idea there was another one here. Unfortunately as many forums don't let you search the member list without signing up, there's no way of finding out any close matches. I'll think of another and have a word with admin.
  5. Some great tips there guys - thanks! A tour of the local farms is something I'm planning to do later in the Spring so all of this info is very useful. Do you tend to find that specifically asking for vermin or pest control shooting (as opposed to just generally asking if the farmer allows shooting on their land) is the best way to go?
  6. I mainly shoot at Spa Vale in Leicestershire. It's a nice little shoot on alternate Saturdays and Sundays offering Skeet, Sporting, FITASC and ABT. I'm not associated with them in anyway, but they're a friendly bunch that helped me out when I was new. Details here: www.spa-vale.co.uk If you do searches on either the CPSA or BASC websites and look in either Leicestershire or Warwickshire you'll find there's a few around. Spa Vale's not listed on either for some reason. At last count (about six months ago) the shoot at Bramcote was still on, but I've never shot there (just been told about it by a mate.) It's along the lane that runs past Bramcote Barracks apparently.
  7. Thought I’d start off by adding my pride and joy to your gallery. It’s a Barasingha model 221 (12G O/U multichoke). OK it’s not a dead sexy Browning or Berretta, but I’m on a budget! I bought it from a local gun dealer last Summer after looking around at a few guns and I like it a lot. It certainly ticked most of the boxes for what I wanted in a gun. I only have three chokes for it (skeet, imp mod and imp cyl) and it has the more open ones in at present (to give me the best chance on the clays!) Hopefully later in the year, it’ll bag some pigeons and bunnies too….
  8. Hi all, I thought it would be polite to start by introducing myself. My name's Wanderer and I live in South Leicestershire. I've been into shooting since I was a kid, mainly field target air rifle in my late teens. The sale of my beloved HW77K led to a pause in shooting of quite a few years. Still kicking myself over that but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Earlier this year, I got my shotgun certificate and started doing some clay pigeon shooting. I don't get out on the clays as much as I'd like, hence my scores (at the moment) are nothing to write home about! It's bloody good fun though. Once my shooting improves a bit, I want to find some rough/pest control shooting, pigeons/rooks/rabbits/squirrels, you know the sort of thing. There's plenty of farms round here so that'll be the starting point. Other than shooting, I like pretty much any leisure pursuit that gets me out in the fresh air. I've stumbled across this site a few times when Googling for various bits of shooting info. Well now I've finally got around to joining. I'm sure that I'll be reading more than posting initially as there's loads of posts to trawl through. Cheers for now Wanderer
