  1. well it looks like tomorrow is on... :yahoo::yahoo: .....just checked the disced rape fields and on the small one is 10-15 birds...and on the large one twixt two spinneys numbers have built up well and we are looking at 300 odd birds.....i chased them off anf within 10 mins they where flighting in again.............so we will be setting up at about 10 oclock and will take it from there.........

  2. My nan lived in Enfield her whole life, was extremely active, worked, did amateur theater, played the banjo etc. I would go more with depression or excessive alcohol abuse after my grandad died as being the cause of her demise

a little known fact about Enfield...................

several years ago i was asked...or my company was contracted to to a nationwide radiation survey of the britain.................this involved teams of sample takers going all over the place ...cutting bags of grass (for take up) and taking soil samples......this was a result of the Chernobyl "incident"....the samples were then sent to the laborities where the EA paid for the testing and results package...............

i knew the director of the said lab as we often sent our remediation samples there....and during a night out on the town and a few beers , he divulged that the highest concentration of radiation isotopes were found on the banks of the watercouses and open park spaces and school playing fields in and around Enfield.....i was expecting the highest to be on the Cumbrian fells...which is were most of the dust cloud from chernobyl drifted over...but there it was very low and beneath the average natural background radiation levels... :hmm:

  3. In Russia they are making connections between aluminum cook ware pots pans etc and degenerative brain diseases. All that boiling cabbage and stuff.

Lead has been found to cause damage to brain.

dont forget the in the water clarification process in this country "we" use AuSo4...aluminuim sulphate (Alum) as a floculant in the water cleaning process.............i believe a few years ago one of the companies greatly overdosed the system and it left some people with a green tinge to their hair....

  4. well said....... :good: .....

hasnt happened to me but it happened to a much older person walking next to me...the fall shook him up..and only suffered a minor scrape or two...........never did like working dogs on rape stubble until it was disced or rotted.......their pads were undamaged but inbetween it was red and raw sometimes...........

  5.

Customer took his mother to undergo one of those tests, doctor asked her to name a tree, her answer was squiral :hmm:

NFN :lol: or add which ever county you like.

Think i read today that atributes included broken sleep :unhappy: thats me on the way then :/

christ i wish you hadnt told me that.....................based on that information...i will be in a home next wednesday....and dead by friday.............and i wont even remember those frantic bed baths by young Thai girl nurses....................damn

  6. Three older men are undergoing a memory test at the doctor's office. The Doctor asks, "What is three times three?" The first man answers, "274." The second man answers, "Tuesday." The third man answers, "Nine." The doctor pleasantly surprised at the third man's correct response, inquires, "Great! How did you get that answer?" "Simple. Just subtract 274 from Tuesday."

the strange thing is ....as you have nearly pointed out....is from time to time some Dementia patients come out with what can only be described as "observations of shear briliance"....many a time my Mrs has made a comment on ....say....the EU.....or a medical documentary ...and has made a comment that just stuns me ....as it would have needed and indepth knowledge of the subject coupled with a very analytical way of thinking...............

  7. 'Surgestivaly' is so much more suggestive when spelt with an 'r'!

I'm not sure DM; I doubt it did anyone any good, but also I'm pretty sure there will be an equal number of similar aged Londoners who haven't got dementia. Who knows?

many years ago i was proof reading an environmental report before it went out to the client.............in them days i could (unlike now read and string the odd sentence together).....i came a cross a passage which....was relating to the speciacian of mix of PNAH's (polly nuclear aromatic hydrocarbons)....and the qualification approval of the anal cyst who carried out reported on the test.....................i tell you boi not a lot got past me in them days..

  8. hello, just a thought i remember there was another saying. lost their marbles !!!!

    3 sheets to the wind

lights are on nobody at home

    round the twist

dont now rear end from elbow

    aurther or martha

what day of the week it is

    ad infinitum.................

how many of those sayings are a result of describing what eventually is termed dementia...............

  9. Carry on lads give shifty swifty and his floundering anti lead ammunition group some new oxygen!

im not about to "inhale" a handful of 9mm parrabellum or ingesst 2oz of goose shot..............it must also be remembered that the sulphure content of deseil at that time was above 2% hence HD oils to neautrilse the sulphuric acids produced during combustion.................

  10. I read a scientific paper not too long ago that linked the recorded crime rate to the amount of leaded petrol that was being used.

now that is a comment that i heard many years ago............and it was also linked to the rate of stillborn children , among a host of other things .......

    bring on DEISEL i say...and turbo-charge the muther :good: .......deja-vous ?

  11. I lived in Birmingham for a time in the late 70's - and there was concern then that children raised near spagetti junction had higher lead levels (from the then leaded petrol and the permanent traffic jams and resultant fumes from cars with no catalysts) and had significantly poorer school results than children with lower lead levels from (presumably) less urban/traffic filled areas.

fumeCoal burning goes back much further (certainly to the early 1800's and so may not be so troublesome since I believe dementia and lead may well have 'increased' together, but I am rather guessing. Coalswould have been present in qu antity form early 1800's - whereas leaded fuel was really 1950's to 1990's

interesting ...............but in "the old days" dementia didnt exist........it was explained away as " a dotty old woman/man"...how often did you hear that expression years ago..............

  12. 'Surgestivaly' is so much more suggestive when spelt with an 'r'!

I'm not sure DM; I doubt it did anyone any good, but also I'm pretty sure there will be an equal number of similar aged Londoners who haven't got dementia. Who knows?

oh yes im quite aware of that....i was just startled by the %age of this Acle group and its makeup.........the other 3 were good ole norfolk gals including the Mrs....whose DNA comes via Halvergate Marshes....i quite understand the origins of her condition as the "gene pool" didnt widen until the advent of the pheumatic tired bycicle..........

you are quite right my spelling is bloody awful....i noticed it deterioated when i fell off the roof 4 years ago...........

  13. Just an observation............

most of you have guessed by now that my sole job in life is caring for my wife who has dementia...........

anyway i took her off to a "meeting for the demented" at the church hall in Acle to give me 3 hours of not having to listen to her incessant utterings ...which as it turned out wasnt too bad....as it became clear that it was difficult to spot half a dozen rooks in a flock of crows...apart from the really nice old boy who very civily introduced himself 6 times to me...and had a firm handshake and good humour

also which perked me up was a nice bit of stuff who brought her mum along...(the bit of stuff smiled sweetly and surgestivaly at me several times...so i will be making another visit to the jesuit hall or whatever)

    SORRY I DIGRESS

they got talking about where they came from................there were 20 demented there.....ALL BUT 3....came originally from London....(Barking...Newham...Brixton....etc)

Now in there early years there....heating would have been coal fires...and the majority of cars and trucks lorries would have been running on Leaded petrol............diet would have been better then than now.............

am i making a wrong or valid connection regards coal (smog) and leaded petrol...........

    any thoughts..........

im not worried about what you say as dementia carers usually develope a black humour....yes we do have some funny days...........

  14. Acle in Norfolk

The co-op....closed.....it then moved further down the road and took over Budgeons (which is a much bigger shop)...............then they put in for planning to repurpose their old shop into a funeral home..............

opposite the now funeral parlour is a cafe......the owners of which put in a complaint that said their takings would go down as on Mondays weds' and friday they had a breakfast club for the old infirmed and ancient.....and they dont want to be looking at and reminded of death when eating their bacon &eggs........................

to top it all off their is a funeral parlour across the road (not 30 yards away)..that has been there since god was a boy..............

i think that is very unfair....i know what will happen....the co-op will drop their prices and force the other buisness out...............im surprised the parish council allowed it............

    rant over

    comment if you want...........

  15. I have two really daft questions (complete beginner here) been out for a walk around one of my fields tonight which has had the rape cut. Question 1 is what are they actually feeding on? Picking up some of the leftovers from the ground and it's just like straw...doesn't seem very appealing (although I'm not a pigeon) and question 2 is that I know stubble brings some better shooting but how long is it before the fields are ploughed thus getting rid of the stubble?.....don't mock me too much for asking these questions

as kyska said THERE ARE NO DAFT QUESTIONS............so just keep asking away.....(we all get our leg pulled from time to time )....the whole idea of pigeonwatch is to learn and swap ideas......so get stuck in........ :good:

  16.

Eccleston was brilliant as the Doctor! Who knows if the series would have taken off again without him. Just a shame he turned down doing more than that single series.

thought the same.......he wasnt into the sex thing and was a bit way out ...deep.......i dont know many people who liked him tho'

  17. That's a typical day for me, spot them, set up, shoot/miss one then pack up as they never return.

We have so much tape in around here.

here we are first to harvest the rape...dont think the others will be harvesting till sat/sun....so we have a very small window of oppotunity ...

  18. Have been watching 2 fields on the way to the shops.....they are rape and were harvested day before yesterday....at the end of the day pigeons were dropping in and stopping to feed...........about 150 on the big field and 50 odd on the small field opposite.....had the heavy rain last night....thought i would take a run over the big field to see what was about.....still very wet and the ground was up to the axels....must have put up 2-300 birds....they would lift off circle and drop back in again.............

phoned my mate and we are on for a session...(kiss of death).....magnet and all the shells to go out and the kitchen sink if i can find one...........
