  2. So you have to pay for the NHS even when you will not use it (insurance scheme?) and when you need it it is not available. Amazes me the praise that this service still gets. I pay 136 Euros per month here and if I have a problem I can choose my specialist then arrange to be seen ASAP and no waiting lists worth talking about.

My first weeks wage was three pounds,3 shillings and sixpence. Dad opened the wage packet and took the three pounds. That's how it was in the good ole days.

£3 17 shillings and sixpence in 1965 take home pay as apprentice, cant get half a pint with that now.

In the early days of mobile phones when they were more the preserve of business (and both phones and calls were not cheap) - I got into the train at Paddington to travel back across the Cotswolds via Oxford after a day working in London.  A lady sat down opposite me and got out her phone - and was loudly on the phone almost to Oxford - when the phone battery expired.  I thought I was then in for some peace - but no - she rummaged in her bag and got out a new battery (phones then had interchgangeable batteries)  ........ and on went with more calls.  Fortunately, as you get west of Oxford, the signal gets poor ........ and she gave up after a great many loud "Hello, Hello - you still there" type exclamations.

Had it been a high powered business conversation, I might have been less annoyed - but it was trivia, chat, and latest bargains in Tesco's etc.

We had a Chinese woman non stop in Cantonese on a bus trip from Stansted to Sheffield I wanted to strangle her at the end.

You mean let them detonate on a crowded bus just to confirm it's a real bomb.

I think you misunderstood my meaning because the police normally attend non bomber driven events and they seem to shoot to kill and never just to wound/disable to de-escalate the situation hence my cynical chair leg comment.

  6. In all the police shootings in the UK has the perp/victim depending on if they were sitting on the tube or carrying a chair leg or actually wearing a bomb vest, ever first given some return fire to the police officers involved? It seems there is now a culture of neutralizing first and ask questions later among those at the top. But ref this terrorist incident I am fully behind the officers involved. How they were appraised so quickly of the situation when driving there would interest me.

I’d think twice before destroying the original sash windows, at around the 500 quid mark to make they may be worth something to someone.
If you’re insulating your loft, joists between floors and if you can get any in the walls, it would be worth looking for a firm which injects Warmcel or Isoflock, much much better insulation than anything else out there.

Almost sure to be a single wall house at that age with the shot damp proof course to boot.

We were about to rip the downstairs crapp y floorboards out and put in an insulated underfloor heating concrete membrane on one wreck we bought for 132K in 2018 but I sold the house before starting the work as we could not get the trades to commit to doing the works, sold it for 112K end of 2020, you live and learn. Council tax is zero if the kitchen and bathroom are non existent for the first year then it rockets to double the normal yearly price afterwards to push renovations forward.

  8. We had roof mounted solar water heaters installed which transfer the so gained heat BTUs into the hot water tank 15 years ago, it developed a leak after 13 years and the government here Bavaria had a grant scheme to upgrade then anyway so we had it renewed for almost free. In summer it really cranks up the hot water systems temp to uncomfortable levels where you need lots of cold water added to make a shower do-able.

  9. I was born in Hartlepool Road Coventry so I always watch events oop there with interest but Labour seems to be a bit confused with their social engineering agenda and Saville Row suited men of the people.
