  1. Quote "Best to ignore the personal jibes and emotive fluff and concentrate on the real issues that come up." Is that the standard BASC answer David, ignore it and it will go away. You lost your NI membership doing than. But you know that already. Becassier
  2. Startup I can't ever remember rambling on for a page. Maybe you are getting me confused with someone north of another border? David BASC....thanks for your words of encouragement but life is far too short to spend it all bashing BASC. They are very capable of doing that themselves and don't need me to do it for them. Becassier
  3. Dazza Good to see you are out of step with your fellow countrymen! I suggest you take time to read some of the other posts I made here too. If BASC needs to be knocked then they should be knocked as should all the other organisations if they step out of line. Maybe you subscribe to Pinkfoot's policy of BASC or no shotgun permit. Sorry that does not work for me and many others in Ireland. The fact that people like me have the strength to speak the way we do says more about us than those who follow blindly Indeed, also about the administrators of this forum who allow free speach. I expect you are a shooter on Strangford Lough. When the BASC monopoly is broken there, as it will be, and clubs there have a choice we will see which way they go. I would suggest it will be to either CAI or SACS. Becassier PS Note that my vocabulary is large enough to allow me to leave out the "F" word. We would not want the readers here to think all Irishmen are loutish!
  4. I see BASC has done a "round robin" to get its supporters posting here. You see you have communication guys and you really don't need your centre. Well done! Becassier
  5. Just a quick response to the guy from NI who was speaking to a PSNI member. Clearly he needs to get out more. The PSNI member I mean! SACS were at the Firearms Liason Committee in Lisnasharagh last week, along with CAI and other groups. That meeting was with with senior PSNI officers who are working with the organisations here on the review of firearms legislation. I think you ought to question him a little more. Clearly he knows more about Comber potatoes that he does about firearms issues or indeed SACS! Becassier
  6. Careful guys. This is another topic that could be closed down very easily! Becassier
  7. David, I think you assume an awful lot, and we have gone into this before you and I. It appears to me that your assumption is that if one is not a BASC member then he or she is against it. Not necessarily the case! Many of us here simply want to point out that your organisation is not the be all and end all. It is simply one of many organisations working for a particular aspect of country sports. In the case of BASC it is purely shooting. CAI and SACS offer support for all country sports and insurance for members involved in not just shooting sports. BASC may, as you are required to say as a paid employee of that organisation, be one of the better organisations. It may as some have pointed out on this forum, have over-paid staff, it may even have too many staff. Only time will tell how long it will continue to survive when it depends upon inflated membership fees for its narrow remit, and when it continues to make appeals like this one. I actually think it will survive albeit as a much changed organisation in an ecomomic climate that makes people look closer at their prioroties. Becassier
  8. Still need one for Northern Ireland. But this could be the last season. I understand that SACS and CAI have had discussions with the new NI Minister for the Environment to have it scrapped and brought into line with England and Wales. I am sure Ian Clark will advise of the SACS position in Scotland where I understand a similar lobbying exercise is ongoing. Becassier
  9. Dogfox Different subject but is the English market still running in Cork City? I used to love that place! Becassier
  10. Sorry for not replying sooner....been away for a few days on a shooting trip. I am in Co. Armagh, Tullyhubbert. We had some maize on our driven shoot, on one of the outlying farms. Held some birds later in the year but I never rated it much. It was harvested for fodder. Maybe I got it wrong but I reckon it's a messy crop and that particular piece of land, which was well drained, is now a muddy field. Could be the harvesting method or just the fact that our winters seem to be getting wetter in this part of the country. Was lying soaking in the bath last night and noticed webbing growing between my toes! Another sign of the wet weather here in Ireland I expect! Becassier
  11. Jim SACS - amateur orginasion is that your opinion. Many here may take exception to that term. Have you any legal standing for making such a statement or is it purely your personal opinion? Of course they say that opinions are like haemorrhoids! Becassier
  12. I see the guys at Foymore Lodge (http://www.foymorelodge.com) are now stocking it. Reasonable prices too! Becassier
  13. Under 18 year olds are FREE with SACS if they are still in full-time education! Just need to be sponsored by a senior member. No frills....just what the doctor ordered you may say. Becassier
  14. I feel sure that all the BASC staff have already contributed from their own inflated salaries. I would be very surprised to hear any different. Becassier
  15. I was down your way yesterday Tullyhubbert. I noticed quite a bit of maize being grown. Usually a fodder crop this side as we just don't grow enough of it for anything else. Becassier
