  1. IMHO you may as well go and shoot at clay pigeons, but that's just me, I have never been a fan of killing just for the sake of killing.....
  2. Gimmicky I reckon, same as those BOP on poles the farmers are all using, seen a rake of pigeons feeding all round them today. Complete waste of time
  3. Well, you learn something new everyday.
  4. Really?, where abouts? I know there is a decent enough number on the Kent/ Sussex border.
  5. No crops in on the farm I shoot but they roost in a big wood where there no shooting, they then take a couple of very definite lines across my ground to the rape and berrys on another farm further along......the decoying has been hard but a few come in close enough for a look while zipping across to the other farm. They are going like the clappers most of the time and its real testing shooting but needs must, I just try not to count the cartridges ! Yesterday was clear but a good stiff breeze and was under the line they take back to the wood. Hot, clear and still I have always found to be rubbish
  6. Any hair? That will tell you right away
  7. I know I would rather make a phone call than have an intimate conversation with a .243 round, there are lads that shoot over a place I have permission to lamp with my dog matey so a quick call to ask them if they are shooting that night keeps everyone safe. I have also been lamping with the dog on a large estate with one of the keepers, the other keeper was out with his .243 ( unknown to me until we pulled up beside him in the gator ) and I called it a day there and then as he didn't seem as concerned as I thought he should be about where we were heading next. When any bit of ground has multiple users then communication makes everyone's life a whole lot easier.
  8. Not sod everyone else at all, once he knows there may have been a near miss I am sure most keepers and any shooters for that matter would think twice about safety next time they are shooting. The matter has been brought to his attention in a way that can not be mis-construed as anything other than a genuine attempt to keep everyone safe. As I said, it's just my opinion.
  9. Personally I would go about it like this, Have a walk up to see the keeper, introduce yourself and tell him you walk your dog round the footpaths. Ask him if you could exchange mobile numbers so you can give him a bell and let him know when you are walking up there as you seen him shooting the other day and heard a round go past. Be honest and say its to keep both of you safe but you will also give him a bell if you see anything that you think he needs to know about. Job done. Your safe, the keeper is safe and you made a friend.....jmho
  10. Reading some of these pages, it is an interesting debate. Lots of fact and figures about how many are kiiled in gun related crime in the USA, the fact is no one has ever done a study to see how many lives are saved from criminals because of gun ownership. You couldnt do the study bacuase no one is going to come forward and say "yes, I thought about breaking into a house to rape, murder and steal from the occupants but I didnt in case they shot me" Its a totally un-known positive effect and one that can never be proven, which sort of knocks the wind out of the anti gun argument. Any law passed on a one sided argument is always going to be bad law. I was pleased to see the NRA take the "no retreat" stance they did as if you give any ground at all to government in these matters they wont stop (as we well know) If only we had a similar organisation over here who defended us as strongly.
  11. IMHO things like this should not be ignored, it's the tip of an iceberg this type of propaganda
  12. Fair one, if you were in hunt service then you will know that a dog can eat a whole host of things....I know one pack that is fed on pies!! Totally respect your point of view and obviously it makes total sense not to feed a gundog game in its intact form, plucked, skinned and minced I don't see a problem with. I just think that people can be easily ripped off by so called " complete" food, it tends to bloat dogs out a bit and IMHO will never come close to raw meat, fish and veg as a feed for dogs. If you see a dogs stools on complete then see the same with raw meat/ bone it's totally different.....no big sloppy ***** with raw, just the real waste everything else is getting used which I don't believe is the case when your dog is pumping out massive sloppy *****. It's the general consensus of opinion that fresh meat and veg is the best for humans animals, not manufactured Ready meals so why is it any different for our dogs which we invest so much time, money and effort into and expect them to graft like an athlete ? Still, there's a few different views so the OP can make up his own mind. Atb
  13. Because dogs have evolved over millions of years to eat eukanuba !!
