Have a look at Lonsdales auction for ammo, accessories etc. It's on the 16 June. Some interesting stuff.

One of the best long recoil shotguns ever made. Easier to clean and disassemble than an A5. Great price. Someone is getting a great classic!

I agree with Morgan. I have and had Webleys. Both the single-shot and magazine fed models. Quality wise they are not as good as the BSA. Unfortunately, the BSA's are often 23" barrels and therefore, s1 which is a great pity.

Yep, same as Scully; they are really underrated.
One of the best long recoil shotguns.

Thanks for the replies. Most interesting!

I'm looking at a Merkel O/U 203E 12G shotgun. A little different to the Italian guns, I think.
They have the three-piece fore-end.
Does anyone have any experience / knowledge? Merkel produce some super rifles but I have absolutely no knowledge of their slightly older design shotguns. I think these date from the eighties or early nineties.
Thanks!

I have one of these. Based on Browning Long recoil but a lot easier to take apart. Everything is chromed, too. A really nice and grossly underrated semi.

I can't work out how to edit my original post, but just to add to it
Happy to do a straight swap for a 410 Hushpower
Thanks but I'd probably, be 'Hushpowering' any .410 that I acquired!
Great gun; I'm sure that you won't have any problems selling it.

Hi manc_munsters, does this have screw chokes or is it fixed? Also, are those 'iron' sights on the rib?
Thanks!
Andy
OK I've answered the second part for myself! Front / rear fibre optics.

Magload are currently advertising that they should have a 35 round 15-22 mag available, later this year. I'll have a word when I go to the Northern Shooting Show.

Sorry, I forgot to mention. The bolt handle is Turkish, made by Fabrik. It is a generic part and needs filing to fit. I obtained it from shotgun-parts.co.uk They are in Sheffield. I'm not endorsing the supplier / company, simply saying that is where I got the bolt handle from - it was £10.

That's really decent, and I like the pics! Did you just knock the pin into the gun and press down? Or from above to punch it out?
Looks like a cheap and effective upgrade! Love it!
The drift pin has to be tapped upwards (with a punch) into the ejection port opening. The internal arm part of the bolt release mechanism will then come free. As I mentioned, have a word with the people at Magload, they should be able to assist with the sourcing of parts. Once you see the 'bits' it all looks a lot clearer! You then line everything up and gently tap the sprung pin back in from underneath. You can actually see where I got a bit sloppy and marred the finish on the receiver. With hindsight, I should have heavily taped up the receiver prior to getting physical ....

Also great answer!
I am tempted to sell my a612, I just fear the price that would be offered! I have considered investing in a better bolt handle and release button, and what you've said is fantastic! I'll definitely look into it, even if just to play with upgrading! Pics would be most welcomed!Righto,
The left photos shows the new bolt handle removed. I basically, hand filed this to the same profile as the original - obviously, file until it fits! About £10 online. The right hand photo shows the bolt handle in-place. The magload bolt release is substantially, bigger than the original and may be ordered in a variety of colours. Speak with Connors or Callum at Magload and explain what you are wanting to do. They were most helpful. The forward extension to the bolt release provides a much larger area and better leverage than the tiny original button. The pin that needs to be 'drifted' out can be seen at the lower edge of the frame, following an imaginary line down from the bolt handle or extreme rear edge of the release button.
Hope that helps

I should have said upper / lower photos as opposed to left / right!

Andy, the release button is stiff on it. What did you buy to make that easier?
Good question! I went to Magload. They supplied the EXTERNAL large button. They arranged for another company to supply the INTERNAL parts, which were Beretta factory internals for the Beretta 1301 Comp. Strip the gun, including trigger assembly . Then, use a long-nosed pin punch to drive out the drift pin which acts as the pivot point for the bolt release mechanism. Remove parts and reassemble with the new large Magload button. Carefully(!) re-fit the drift pin and complete re-assembly and function test. Massively better function. I don't have time today but I will take some photos and post here. Additionally, whilst not essential, you may consider replacing the bolt handle with something bigger and easier to grasp if wearing gloves or speed-shooting. Again, I purchased a very cheap Turkish generic bolt handle and filed to fit - it took about fifteen minutes. Personally, I find that the stock is a tad too long for me (plastic version). A shorter one would be good but Highland Outdoors (the importer for Armsan) don't offer anything alternative, other than a 'youth' version.

I bought one the other year as a cheap 'fun' gun which I can lend and not be worried. I've modified mine by fitting a high profile bolt handle, cut down the magazine spring to ease loading and the real 'game changer' for me; I fitted a large profile bolt release button. It is now much, much easier to release the bolt. Next mod will be to fit a high viz bead front sight.
Great gun for the money!

I have one of these. One of the very best Hornets ever made!

Westlander bring in a very large range of S & B products.

Glad to hear that you got sorted. I have to say that I rate the Armsan - given that it is a 'cheap' gas auto. I have personally, sorted out the issue with the very stiff bolt release button.
Contact Magload - they have a website. They supplied me with their own make extended button and the internal part of the bolt release which came from the Beretta 1301 Comp. This solution works very well.

If I hadn't already got one, I'd be buying that!

Not one of the above, but Ive recently bought some of the Swatcom Novo SC20E electronic in-ear plugs. I'm very happy with them for situations where muffs get in the way.

Interesting legal question if anyone can help? I have dual nationality, UK and Austria. I'm resident in the UK and have lived here my whole life, and also hold a UK SGC. In Austria, purchase of a normal, for example, O/U shotgun is essentially unrestricted - it's your right, no license required, just a 3 day wait for a criminal record check and that's it. If I wanted to buy a shotgun in Austria as an Austrian citizen, and wanted to bring it back to the UK, how would I enter this in my UK SGC? Would it just be a case of entering it on my certificate myself and also notify the UK police? Not sure anything equivalent to the way a UK RFD enters it on your SGC exists in Austria.
Thanks!
I've re-entered the UK (ferry) with a friend who had firearms purchased in Belgium. He needed paperwork to move from the dealers premises in Belgium to the port of embarkation. In Belgium he had the Belgian dealer enter the items onto his UK FAC. That way he did not need to declare at UK customs, unless asked, and simply advised his local Firearms department of the acquisitions when he got home, just as he would have done with a UK purchase. I know some will say get the Border Force to do it. My experience is that they wouldn't know what to do and would need much higher authority before putting pen to paper.
Could you go to the dealer in Austria and get them to enter it onto your SGC?
As others have wisely said, print off and have with you any correspondence with the police etc.

Would the Lidl unit take an O/U action
I have a very similar one which came from Lidl a few years back. OK..ish for small components. Not big enough for most action bodies.

Amazing info guys, much appreciated. Would it get me in any trouble having them in my small collection. I know these police/military items can be a bit grey sometimes in the eyes of the law
As tight choke says, it's a fired cartridge case. Not an issue. Loaded rounds (other than blank) are S1.
