  1. What sort of price would you be prepared to pay for ammo for wmr? Also what advantages would the plastic tipped ammo hold over conventional ammo?Would they be more inclined to disintegrate when a conventional bullet would ricochet?
  2. I have purchased a Ruger 77/22 all weather in .22WMR with a 24" heavy varmint barrel and was wondering if anyone has any opinions on this wee rifle? Its got a laminate stock and metalwork is finished in a silvery coating (nickel?) they call it target gray stainless steel. Being fairly new to the world of hunting with a rifle (lots of shotgun and air rifle experience) i was wondering what sort of accuracy to expect from this rifle, what range i would be best to zero the gun at, what sort of range would the gun be used at and is the .22WMR as dangerous a round as the LR? Was asking this because i have heard lots about the .22LR being notorious for richochets. I understand the importance of only shooting when i have a suitable backdrop but are there any other safety issues i would need to address before taking the rifle to the field? Any help on the matter would be appreciated because i am hopefully going to be taking delivery of the rifle in the next week or so.Cant wait!!
  3. You shouldnt use bog roll or kitchen roll in your barrerlls, it leaves a fluffy residue behind. Use a yellow duster or other non paper kitchen cloth. When cleaning my barrels i first give a wee squirt of gun oil (Brunox or Napier or WD40), then a good pounding with the old bronze brush swiftly followed by a rag on a pull through. I then do this again without the gun oil. I then clean the chokes. Does anyone here put grease on the choke tubes or on the knuckle or stub pin (name?) joints?

  6. Just gotten round to trying out a couple of different pellets in my S410. I have tried Bisley Magnums and H&N Match. First of all, the H&N's didnt suit my barrel and after 15 yards they grouped like a shotgun and caused me to lose an o-ring in the breech because i have been told my gun doesnt like flat head pellets!? But for rats inside 15 yards they were unbelievable, very instantly dead rats!!! Then the bisley mags, Gave decent groups, but still not as good as my AA Fields, noticeably slower and pack a hefty punch out to 40-50 yards but dont have the accuracy i need to have to have confidence in 70 yard plus shots. VERDICT - Stick with what you know and what works best, in my case Air Arms Fields all the way!!!! Just thought you might want to know!!!
  7. :< I have a Beretta A300 semi Auto (thirty yaers old this year) and the button which allows the loading plate in the bottom of the receiver to open has broken and i need to get another part! Will it be difficult to find spares for this gun or will i be able to use a part from a 301/302/303?
  8. I have almost finished making my own magnet, all i need now is the two arms ( i am having trouble finding spring steel!) So far the project is costing me £2.70 and it has taken me three hours to make! How can anyone charge £100+ for one of these? If anyone wants pictures or even a set of plans send me a PM with your e-mail address and i will send them to you! Any one got any ideas for the arms?
  9. what about a flux capacitor, crank the speed up to 88mph and way you go!!!
  10. Is the S200 available in FAC power? If not would it be a good idea to tune one up to around 15/16fpe?

    Slings

I have been thinking about a sling for my Air Arms S410 and would like to know what other hunters think about having a sling on their gun. Are they worth the bother? My gun has a walnut stock so I am unsure about drilling into it, i know i will need to remove the stock. What type of sling is the best, what type of studs(?) are best, i want the sort that i can fit a bipod to. What is the name of these? I want to fit a 'Deben Padded Super Sling' and a '1A2-LM HARRIS BIPOD SOLID BASE' what sort of screws do i need to accomodate this combo? Do they come with either piece or do i need to buy them separate?
  12. http://forums.pigeonwatch.co.uk/forums/ind...?showtopic=9126 I have found a picture of what the bird looks like on this forum. Go to the link above, the birds i saw is the first pic. They were stock doves.
  13. Thanks lads. I think they were rock doves but still not sure but if any get shot this year i will know better!! Now i know for definite the 'scottish pigeon' theory is a bit stupid!!!
  14. Im in Portglenone near Magherafelt. When it comes to the barley time this year i will ask them if they have shot any more and take some photos. Do you know of any sites with pics of rock/stock doves or squabs! This has been a hot debate point with my mates. One says they are scottish woodies so when we finished laughing at him we argued but i thought the same as you with them being doves. It is very possible they are young pigeons because they were the same colour of grey as 'normal' woodies.

    .22 versus .177

Cant fault the .22. The .177 must be some calibre if it is easier to shoot then .22. My AA S410e shoots real flat, 1" holdover at 55yds when zeroed at 35. Close range shots are no problem either. The trajectory was real easy to work out. I have a friend who says he will never shoot with a .22 again since getting a .177 Daystate but i cant fault the stopping power and accuracy i am getting with the .22. I cant really see how sucha small pellet can do the same damage as a .22
  16. This was shooting over cut barley autumn last year! By squabs im guessing you mean young pigeons but i dont think thats what it was. We all laughed when he said scottish pigeons, and the nearest thing i can find are rock doves. Theyre exactly as 'normal' woodpigeons with out any white bars or rings. Any help would clear up a long running argument.
  17. Last year my friend was out decoying pigeons and when they got the bag home to clean out the birds he noticed that some of the birds were as normal but were missing the white wing bars and white ring on their neck. They also seemed a bit slimmer than normal woodpigeons. He said they were scottish pigeons??? I think they were rock doves? Didnt think we got those in NI! Any one got any ideas???
  18. Have some pictures here of the pellets but dont know how to get them on the forum
  19. For sure i am getting good results from the AA Fields, getting head shot kills out around 60 yards  and flat enough trajectory to shoot inside five yards at rats. Everyone says the more power your gun then the heavier the pellet you can use but i didnt see the advantages. As for the quality of the AA pellets, in the last two tins i got ive had about 10 deformed pellets and one AA hunter (name?) will e-mail them a few pics!! Thanks for the info Cheers
  20. Cant fault the Air Arms Field it worked excellent in my TX200HC (16fpe) and is going well in my S410E (30fpe). It doesnt over penetrate but deforms well and will flatten out well. Seems to be good quality with the odd one or two in the tin being squashed and oval and wont even fit in the magazine. Would like to try a heavier pellet like the Bisley Magnum but cant think of any advantages of the heavy pellet. Any one got any? Does the heavier pellet do more damage or what? I understand the heavier pellet will change the trajectory a lot im happy with AA Fields but would like to know of any advantages heavier pellets would give!!
  21. As i do a lot of rat shooting and in situations where 30fpe is a tad too much i was wondering if a King Ratcher would any good. Does anyone have any info on them? Are they heavy? How many shots from a capsule? How much power? Are they any use for anything other than rats? How much is a capsule? Do i need to put it on my FAC? (I live in Northern Ireland) Any info would be appreciated!!!!
  22. Have just downloaded ChairGun2 and have tried to make use of it. Where do i get the information at? Seems really complicated!

    Which Springer

A TX200HC is a mighty springer. With 16ft/lbs i could take out pigeons at 40+yards and rabbits at 60 yards. Although it was heavy i soon got used to the weight. I gave a bit of recoil but was soon able to allow for this. It is also quiet too with the bull barrel, a silencer makes it even quieter. I dont know much about the HW77 but the Air Arms is definitely a quality item, I would recommend it to anyone.
  24. I think that would be the problem, i will set out some targets at every 5 or 10 yards and get some practice. Thanks for your help.
  25. I have just got my new gun and have zeroed for 40 yards. I can get good groups at this distance but when i took it to shoot at feral pigeons at close range it is shooting low, i cant know why this is?
