Pigeon Watch gold... why is this thread still running?
  5. Im looking at trying reloading for the first time. I dont want to invest in a press just yet but there seems to be a few people who use dowel and nail for unpriming and then just tapping the new primer in with the dowel. Is this safe?? There are plenty of youtube vids on it, but Im not convinced? Anyone here do this?
  6. do you have any problem with mositure on steel shot with either roll or crimping?
  7. Hi, Im thinking of trying to reload some steel duck cartridges for my 10g. I have done some research and found some recipes that I would like to follow. One question... the recipes are all for crimped finish and am looking to roll finish mine. I believe this will affect pressure. Can I still follow the recipes??
  8. I was right out on the flat. The hide is small and only just big enough to hide the dog and me kneeling in the mud.
  9. Is everyone seeing half of the video green? Or is it my computer?
  10. She is as mental as a spaniel in a labs body! Loves fowling though.
  11. Sorry Brian, I meant on our Estuary. Your right, It was the Dawlish site Andy. The report was on Friday.
  12. There is about 1400 widgeon here at the moment Brian, according the bird spotting website. With around 50 pintail and 180 teal in the count. Numbers are starting to build nicely.
  13. Its a Jack Pyke jacket. Have to say, the weather could not have been any worse and I kept fairly dry. If I lived as close as Andy, I would have gone home! Glad I didn't though.
  14. It was a bit scary at times! I have would not have gone out if I knew how bad it was going to be. Didn't see any greys, never even heard a Canada but plenty of Brent. Lots of pintail too. I wondered if I was going to bump into you.
  15. I left for the marsh this morning at 4.30am. Forecast was clear with rain in the afternoon. However the whole 45 min journey was lit up with sheet lighting and the wind was really picking up. On arrival, it was clear there was going to be a storm. I pulled on the waders and got all the gear ready to go…..then the rain started. Drizzle at first, before a full on torrential down pour for 20 mins. I decided as I had travel this far, I might as well venture out. I got to the tides edge and set the decoys up. The storm was now in full swing with thunder, lighting and horrendous rain. At least it tested my jacket out! Which I’m glad to say did me proud. It was still dark when the first pair came over, however, I managed to drop one. A nice young wigeon in the bag. There were reports of Pintail arriving during the week, and as I had never shot one, was keen to get under them. A small group came over, but I missed cleanly. As I was cursing myself, another was following and was neatly folded up and landed for an easy retrieve for the dog. And then the flight started properly. In total 7 duck…. 1 Pintail, 4 wigeon, a teal and a lovely drake mallard. One of the best flights I have ever had and makes up for all the blanks! Highlight for me was a pricked wigeon. We had to cross the rapidly rising creek to get to the other side. The young dog messed about for a while, but suddenly remembered her training and went right back to find the bird. It was a long retrieve and all the evenings of training paid off. Some were caught on camera, however, its morning flight, so all shot in the half light and the camera has not picked up the images very well. It also has not caught the horrendous rain! Best watched full screen so you can see whats happening! Attaching video gives a green screen so here is the link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0VcPJ7q6_Q
  16. Trust you Brian to need something with reinforced knees and easy access backside.... Oh sorry, i misread it
  17. So did I! Thanks for the offer of the cartridges Andy. I got some BB from John Morrish but dont have anything smaller at moment.
  18. Cheers Ross, Im waiting to watch some vids from you now!
  19. Thanks Brian. It would be good to shoot up there again. From Plymouth, everything is 'up there'! Its good to hear you have a few birds on the river though.
  20. I love it Andy, can't get the bloody cartridges though!
  21. It was still too dark for the camera to catch it. Shame really as it was a decent shot.. honest!!
  22. Well, didn't shoot a mallard all season last year on the estuary. Had plenty of widgeon, some teal, Canada's etc but never got under a mallard. However, managed one this morning. Really quiet, nothing much about it seems at the moment.
