  1. A short vid from a recent trip to the Tay.
  2. Drill with an RTO on it. Scales from amazon. I made a wooden block that allows me to de-prime spent shells. A dowl and an egg cup! Works for me. Only bit I bought from a gun shop was the RTO.
  3. I made these vids last year. They may help. They have been on PW before.
  4. I call if they are a long way off or not seen. They will come for miles to the primos. Once they have seen the decoys, if you are in the right place, they should come in.
  5. I won a day on the broad a few years ago. The broad had frozen and there were plenty of duck. It was when steel cartridges were fairly new. Myself and the other gun shot teal, mallard and a goose. None were retrieved. Either flew on or dived. We vowed never to use steel again. (I feel it has completely changed now and now only shoot steel). We were really annoyed. In fact my friend was fuming. As we got back to the boat shed, he threw his gloves on the floor and headed back to the car. Another boat arrived. His dog jumped onto dry land and needed to relieve itself. It crapped on top of my mates gloves... I picked the gloves up, shook the poo off and never mentioned it, as I knew it may send him over the edge. (It did tell him on the drive home!) The thing that made the trip for us was we stayed in a B and B. The owner was a duck lover and everything, and I mean everything, in her house had ducks on it. Even our wallpaper. In fact, even the soap was duck shaped! Imagine the conversation over breakfast when she asked us why we had traveled to Norfolk! She also thought we may be a couple, so reserved the double room.... after a quick chat, we were back in single beds!! If you make it an adventure, shooting can sometimes be secondary on these trips. Shooting new places, meeting new people and experiencing new things is worth the trip.
  6. Yes, Skill at Arms is the course you have to take to teach weapon systems. 0146 is the last 4 of my regimental number. I have a feeling I was shooting around your way over Christmas. (Great Yarmouth area?)
  7. I used to teach skill at arms in the Army and always wore electronic ear defenders. I also do for pigeon shooting but never did for wildfowling. However, as I use my 10g more often now, I have gone back to the ear defenders. It used to amaze me the amount of lads firing 7.62 all day long with no protection. Im sure they will regret it.

    Snipe?

Some of the shoots I go on are full of the little birds. I have not shot one for about 20 years. I know they are sporting, but there is so little meat on them, for me it does not make it worth the preparation.
  9. I use the sam 1 wads and they are much better for me than the mutli metal. I use a reciepe from the RSI book, its similar to the alliant
  10. I have some Winchester factory shells in BB. I cut one open out of interest and weighed the components. It was also 1 3/8 (said it on box also!) but shot charge was same as the load Im now using.
  11. It was a different published recipe. I wouldn't just make my own up. I tried a few 1 1/2 loads and they were still a bit patchy. I can only get hold of a limited range of empty cases so am limited to recipes.
  12. Im using 1 3/8 as its for ducks and with the light load can keep the speeds up. This is the latest patten. Again 45yds but change of wad and powder. I shot a very high mallard last weekend and it was stone dead.
  13. I remember walking along the wall at Sheps as a kid and seeing all the dead mice, voles etc washed up after a massive abnormal tide. We came across a seal pup which bit our dog. Poor thing was not going to survive (seal pup). Clearly not in the shooting season.
  14. Full choke suitable for steel, lead or hevi shot. Brand new, never used, in original packaging but package has been opened. Comes with a choke key Fits any winchester, browning invector, mossberg model 500, weatherby and savage shotguns with standard choke. Any questions please PM. £26 Will add pics tomorrow
  15. I tried dust extracted shaving last year. My lab started losing hair in big clumps. I thought it was food related, so didnt change bedding. After a month, she had large bald patches along her back. As it was getting warmer anyway, she went back to old blankets and the hair loss stopped straight away and the hair grew back. She obviously had some sort of reaction to the shavings.
  16. A big well done to the club. Looking at the photos, all the young shots looked well pleased with themselves. With there being no wind, the birds must have been fairly high, so good shooting as well. Hopefully some young wildfowlers of the future.
