Most of the peas i shoot over are vining peas. They can get at them easy enough, they just aren't interested anymore. Some of the later drilled fields ( drilled early june) may still be worth looking at later on.
hi motty'
sure thing the only problem with pigeon shooting now for a few weeks is that now harvest has started there will be so much food around for the birds to feed on with all the stubble fields and then the drillings after, they are going to be harder to keep in one place long enough to shoot a good bag unless there are several guns all shooting various nieghbouring fields to keep them moving around

The pigeons have left all the pea fields i shoot. They are now on cereals and rape.
hi motty,
this farmer has only started combining today and the seed pea's are the first fields he's doing,he hasn't got any laid crops anywhere although there have been a few landing in the standing crops barley & rape, so i think as the pea's when fully podded are close to the ground they have been there first choice as they can easily walk around and take them from the pods as they open easily when ripe

hi guy's
got myself a beretta a303 like new only had a few cartridges thru it made 1989 it's a superbly nice hardly used example, so i thought i would take it out straight away and test to test it out so i did, done a recon trip on 2 of my shoots and found a fairly large amount of pigeon activity on one of the seed pea fields not yet harvested so quite a difficult situation for recovering dead birds but decided it would be a great opportunity to get aquainted with the 303.
so i set up at about 1500 hrs and managed to pick up 56 pigeons by 1900 hrs and the gun was absolutely faultless one of the best 12 gauge s/a guns i have ever shot if not the best
well pleased..

hi'
in my experience the best time to shoot pigeons where i am (in the summer) is late afternoon i wouldn't shoot at first light as they tend to leave the field early to find somewhere else to feed, i normally let them feed for a few hours first and when i do go i normaly try to keep away from the corners of the field as pigeons tend to prefer open area's they feel safer and will come into the decoys with more confidence, try to establish the best flightline and get as near to this as possible and away from the corners they are to enclosed and pigeons don't like that, i suggest you try and place a hide more in the open close to a flightline rape is harder you need a very light coloured hide same as the stubble corn is easier if you have the use of some bale's, nothing is more important than spending time watching them try to spend the first few hours checking out the options also i tend to fire a shot at them first and see how long it take for them to return good luck.. :look:
