  1. Noted and mentioned "if you can afford it" above. There may be someone in the PW Collective who could offer some 'swap shooting' to help or, like a fellow stalker who just gave me some antlers to play with for making sticks. If I had a deer permission nearer to you I would offer some time. Sadly Cheshire has no substantial deer population, so I travel.
  2. Saturday on the 2 Cheshire shoots I beat on.
  3. I'm amazed the guy can write - he is useless at everything else.
  4. There is another way which may be worth exploring if your friend can afford some paid stalks. Four is the maximum I have heard of and you will need someone to confirm in writing you have been on those stalks. Then, assuming you have centrefire experience with your area, ask for a rifle for deer stalking by simply buying stalks when you can. This should allow you a CF (say .243) on an open cert, if you already have CF experience of more than 2 years. That means you can use it where you think its safe with AOLQ. Failing this as I mentioned before, your landowner needs to write to confirm the presence of deer on his land and that he gives you permission to shoot them. If you have a CF already and they refuse a .243 then you can go to BASC with an almost cast iron justification.
  5. Talk to BASC - his organisation - it would be interesting to see if the new firearms insurance deals with what is basically a case of a couple of opinionated coppers. In my view, it would be worth talking to west mercia and getting their perspective but BASC will do this for you. As for stalking - he must give you a definitive view now or otherwise how can he say you should do some stalking if he doesnt know how much experience each stalk confers? There is always the Police and Crime commissioner if BASc cant/dont help and then there is the PCC. I wonder who is trying to get a better service on our behalf when rubbish like this is being practiced by the police. P.S. I agree it has nothing to do with the suitability of the land as safety lies entirely with the shooter and, when he has an open ticket he can shoot in a 4 acre field, provided he has the owners permission and exercises his judgement as to safety. Keep going and tell us what BASC says.
  6. It may seem elementary but pits result from corrosion of the original metal in small patches. They cannot be 'polished out effectively -the barrel(s) must be reprofiled and may lose wall thickness to a critical level. Gunsmith's advice on whether enough strength would be retained following reprofiling, If he says 'no' then you have a gun which may be out of proof. Not something to take on lightly I suggest

    DNA database...

Testing and comparison of DNA samples costs about £100, collecting the samples maybe £100 (time) so its not that expensive but maybe the incentive to do so came from a 'serious' landowner with clout? Anyway, its a good 'cop'.
  8. Plenty of money to hide, unfettered violence and absolute control of the female population, with the promise of more when you meet your God - for those with nothing and as Boris says and contolling power over all (AK47) - tempting to those with no morals, allegiances or wit to understand, and we will allow these people back?
  9. Just for those who may be interested 2 items below - there's also a Baker Rifle for £6k-£8K - I'd love that. http://www.peterwilson.co.uk/lot/?lid=41693&src=list&sal=84&stp=0&mct=0&sct=0&efr=0&eto=0&kys=&lpp=25&soo=0&rs1=0&rs2=0&of1=75&of2=0# http://www.peterwilson.co.uk/lot/?lid=41696&src=list&sal=84&stp=0&mct=10&sct=0&efr=0&eto=0&kys=&lpp=25&soo=0&rs1=0&rs2=0&of1=0&of2=0 The first is a Theoben Eliminator .22 FAC £180-£220 The second is a Winchester SX3 £300-£500
  10. Well what many suspected has come about. The Rotheram 'cabinet' has been forced to resign following the publishing of damning conclusions in a report into child abuse in the area. The report confirms that the abuse is mainly carried out by Pakistani men, and that the Council was sexist, bullying and too politically correct. Nice to hear a New Zealander will be heading the now statutory child abuse/establishment inquiry. I make the suggestion that its conclusions will amaze. We will however to wait for 3 years (at least ) for those.
  11. This has been suggested before - I understand the religeous (Sunni) links but is it reasonable to assume that whilst Osama Bin Laden was a Saudi, that support continues through ISIS? If so, the Saudis, will eventually be up **** creek without any means of propulsion and rightly so.
  12. Its worth noting that - 'no deer' is a typical statement and usually based on an unwillingness to inspect the land or a reluctance to admit that signs of deer are not readily understood. If you are right however and keep pushing with polite firmness, simply put, you will succeed, because its the law. I am not surprised that many women are Heads of Firearms units - it is probably seen as a 'convenient' posting for female officers. However, what may have been missed is that, even if these women are anti - gun, they seem to me (at least) to be more focused on what is right and correct than their rather more arrogant male colleagues which is why, with a good case, appealing to them for a reconsideration will meet with a fair response - as in this case and my own previously.
  13. It is worth noting that ISIL/ISIS is al-Quaeda in Iraq. These people are not normal, they are Sunni muslims who became dissaffected after their sect (which was in a minority to the Shia's in Iraq) lost all influence with the fall of Sadam. Those who join ISIS are not joining a muslim organisation or a religeon, although no doubt it portrays itself as such. They should know they are joining a banned organisation. They cannot be allowed back and saying so now would drain support for the most horrific terrorist organisation. The Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant just happens to hold its territory in the centre of the Iraqi oil fields - an area which holds more than a sixth of Iraq's total oil reserves. They are sitting on funding for their terror and a means of ransoming the world. Jordan has the right view - this illegitimate state must be destroyed to the last man. Even the normally repugnant al Quaeda broke with ISIS /L because of its savage inhumanity - can you believe that?
  14. There is something called humanism which is not religeon but based principally on the ethic of '- do as you would be done by' which is great as long as you carry a big gun.
  15. Its apparent that the Norwegian hunters thought there was greater advantage than problems associated with the change and there are lots of potential 'wetlands' in Norway and Sweden.
  16. You can ask for a new inspection, based upon a change in circumstances - it would help the case if the owner of the land rings the police and tells them he has seen fallow deer on the ground and needs to control them. In the end the FEO will have to give way to evidence and his boss - convince her and that is all it takes plus a willingness to continue if unreasonably treated. If you are with BASC, ask them what evidence would be confirmatory and ask for a joint visit - make sure the landowner can make it. Lot of hassle for an arrogant and opinionated FEO, he obviously is not aware that deer move and populations expand.
  17. Maybe a bit of information about tactics they use would change their minds. Silly people - 'saboteur' should give it away to anyone with a shred of intellect. I hope the Devon hunt dont respond like saboteurs !
  18. Another good point. Make sure you apply for everything you want, as later variations cost.
  19. Agreed. Compliance does relate to recognition of the common sense of laws and the one we have is rather silly and not based on evidence. Far better to perhaps recognise this and campaign for a change in the law which could be supported by shooting members view and attract a high degree of support - far better perhaps than seeking compliance with an unreasonable law. It would seem that to lobby parliament might also see the lead ban take a bit of a back seat and no more ducks on inland shoots shot with lead - they all would be, legally, except over wetlands which needs a simple but effective definition. 5 days to kill a duck through lead ingestion - how many have died on inland shoots in the last 30 years through lead ingestion. Maybe a handful ? edit - errors
  20. Sorry but for me it shows that a good knowledge of the law relating to shooting is a must. If you choose to join a shootin g organisation then that is a very positive support for shooting in general but again - there is a choice and choice = competition and competition is a spur against complacency. Until there is one shooting organisation we should recognise the other representative organisations and not be so specific. Performance is key and always should be. Great performance and reasonable fees and we could all be represented.
  21. Good point. There is however a certain understood rhetoric linked to a religeon - code words for the west, etc. This rhetoric or 'code' seems to link elements of the religeon to present day we saw that rhetoric with Saddam. Perhaps this 'common parlance' creates a bond which we dont fully understand but it certainly goes back hundreds of years.
  22. It worries me that the police see deer differently to fox. Is this because one is edible and one is not or that one is bigger and one is smaller? Whatever reason, many forces ask for 'experience' for deer. I am of the opinion that someone has contact with the stalking industry and uses the criterion of 'qualification' as a means to restrict stalking via the issue of stalking legal calibres. The difference between deer and fox, as far as firearms (invented) guidance is concerned, needs a national challenge and a commitment from our shooting organisations to offer (free) a basic safety course, in exchange for the removal of these 'discretionary' restrictions.
  23. It will only get locked if those who comment break the rules. This will be the death of IS. This last act has destroyed any shred of credibility for them as either a homeland for those of that faith or as a saviour of a religeon. It also confirms that any who join IS cannot be allowed back into 'normal' society. One wonders how anyone, anywhere, can find this act supportable. There needs to be an immediate and crushing reaction from all national states to annihilate the last vestiges of IS. I would be in favour of finding the sub - humans involved in these vile murders and meting out to them a fate far worse than any they have inflicted.
  24. In one of his pigeon vids G Digweed warmed his cartridges to (he believes) get a slight range advantage and he shows how warm cartridges leave less unburnt powder residue in the barrels. Not sure myself but GD has tried most things and successfully.
  25. DSC1 is unnecessary. I do not think placing additional barriers is helpful. Go for a few stalks with an experienced stalker, that is more than enough experience and it is not mandatory to have experience, experience of centrefire rifles would be a very good idea however. Why do we constantly complain about additional barriers to firearms ownership and use and 'invent' yet more ourselves. We are pricing firearms out of the reach of many new shooters with that kind of - 'you can only join my club if '....rubbish.
