I assume a slow ascent does not damage the swim bladder and the fish can be returned unharmed. I have seen fish brought up very quickly and the swim bladder pushes the stomach out through the mouth. Not a pretty sight.
Nice cod though and well done in returning it. Let's hope if it's caught again the next angler does likewise.
Have been out of sea fishing now for the last 30 years and to show my lack of current knowledge, may I ask what 'Gummi maks ' are ?
OB
Gummi maks are basically big flying c's weighed by a pirk about 750g. Ling tend to cough up there bladders and makes them hard to return. They are a fine eating fish though. Cod are easily returned providing you can get all the air out there stomachs thrn return head 1St.

Our main sport fish in NZ, snapper (Pagrus auratus) is generally toast beyond 30 metres, maybe even 20 metres despite what some anglers wish to believe. This is based on pretty good scientific data. Don't know about atlantic cod.
Atlantic cod are easily returned providing you can get all the air out there stomachs then return them head 1st

Gummi maks. Unfortunately the swell and current were too strong for any lure fishing.

Personal choice, would like another angler to get the same experience I had with it.

Just back from a fantastic weekend fishing in Shetland. Weather was poor both days but managed to somehow haul a 30lb cod up in the worst of conditions. I was drained after the 35 min fight and it was an even harder task trying to hold it up for a quick picture before being safety returned. My body ia only recovering now!

Price dropped to £1350, would consider using this as a swap for a 30in multi choked cesar guerini or similar gun with an lop of around 14-14.5. Would prefer face to face dealings only but can travel if required

Sooner someone puts fury on his bum the better. 4 rounds with a nomark with very little landed or thrown for that matter. Zzzzzz

Good fight with flannagan. Very badly cut and the yank giving a very good account of himself.
-
You wouldnt have thought so listening to bispig et al post fight. Hopefully he can keep the momentum going.
-
Well done Darren till. Not a great fight but I felt he deserved it. More going forwards than Thomson who just was not active enough for me. Think a rematch would be a different fight all together.

Cheers for the heads up dave

Been going there for 39 years and I’m 39 years old ?. Going again this year for my 40th! I have stayed all over the place from North to South on both coasts. These days I stick to the North for a bit more varied cosmopolitan environment. Down south mid island like Lindos is still nice but most resorts, especially Faliraki are no longer like the rumour mill paints them out to be. You have to really like heat to be comfy in Lindos, that big **** off rock under the acropolis is baked hot by the sun every day and acts like a huge heat store for an averge 5 degree temperature increase over most other spots for similar weather, there is far less wind on the east cost too. Symi is nice but dont believe the sponges are from anywhere local? days gone by?
there are many great places in greece, relaxed and generally warm friendly people , I re-visit Rhodes regulalry as It feels like a home from home and my oldest friends are there, we have been since we were kids and they were my best men, I got married there too.......still going there with the new woman too ?????????
my favourite hotel is Amathus Beach, partly for the childhood memories, Rodos and Olympic Palaces too, Prasonisi for the windsurfing with my Dad and Pefki for my first experience (I was 10 years old) seeing a seriously fit starkers German Chick ( prbably about 25 at the time in hindisght).
Kalithea is a wonderful beach for the day but get there early, as is St.Pauls Bay in Lindos.
I stay In Kalithea these days because its a great compromise for weather and location (you will rarely see a single cloud in July or August) and compact hire cars are inexpensive at about €40/50 a day, less than mororbikes these days almost.
go up into the mountains to see pofitas illeas, an italian ski chalet in the sun. Food is good in most places and you dont get scammed for anything including taxis that are all fixed fares (rhodes town to Lindos is about €75) which has got high so hire a car, it’s cheaper even for one day.
i could go on, just ask if you want to know more?
I spent my honeymoon at the amathus beach. Stunning hotel and service and the views were out of this world. Love old Rhodes Town. Cracking fish restaurant in the old town but cant remeber the name. Some really nice areas.

Dont know andy personally but he is standing up to threats to our sport/culture/work/hobby/passion/way of life. I support him and would urge anyone with a love of country life to do the same. In his counter argument one example was that packham stated that x happened on this day at this location, then a video dated one month later appeared to show another incident at the same location, however the incident one month later was actually filmed the same day as the original proven by the slight snow pattern, location and sunlight direction and shadows. Or along those lines. Well done andy for standing up to the pwick.

Thanks but going by the stories the locals in Shetland tell of trawlers just dumping fish after their quota is maxed I wont hold my breath.
