  1. From sticking the application in the post to certificate in hand it has taken no more than 28 days, including weekends etc, and a total of 10 days since the FEO came over.. Hoorah.. Collect my cz.17 next weekend :-)
  2. good old NFU, I told them and I am covered for articles outside the house up to 600 each up to 2k with no increase in premium, yes this includes the shotguns and rifle, yay
  3. Afternoon All I am just about to finalise the purchase of my first .17 HMR and I have been offered one of the two following scopes either a Bushnell Banner 3 - 9 x 50 (he said 56 but I cant link that to anything)with IR (brand new in box) http://www.grahamsonline.co.uk/product/banner-3-9x50-riflescope-with-illuminated-reticle or an AGS 4-16x 50 IR which has been on th erifle for a few years http://www.uttings.co.uk/Product/543/107257/ags-cobalt-redi-mount-4-16x50-ao-ir-rifle-scope/ Im not looking to get the most value from the deal, more just wanting to choose right for shooting bunnies up to 100 yds and which will match the rifle well. Any advice appreciated Many thanks
  4. I am looking to get a single barreled shotgun for my wife to start using, but I cant decide to go 20g or 12g? I tried her on my o/u 12g but it was too heavy and with 24g cartridges it still hurt her, Should I go 12gauge than use 21gram cartridges or 20g and try 21 or 24gram cartridges? I want her to be able to shoot the gun but also have a hope in hell of breaking a clay every now and then. I did try to get her to look at the Hatsan Semi youth but she hates the look and feel of the gun so thats out, and I dont want to spend a lot as there is a good chance it wont get used a lot. Cheers Alex
  5. It may well be some sort of placebo effect spending more money than I usually do on cartridges, and this probably merely coincided with me having a good round, however I went to High lodge on Tuesday and bought 6 boxes of these @ £5.20 a box (20.8p each) 28g 7.5 http://www.eleyhawkltd.com/compcarts-superb.html I was impressed with the feel of the cartridge and the breaking ability (I guess that's what you call it), I was shooting from a well used Miroku o/u 12g. I compared it directly with some Hawk competition cartridges which I shot with last time and the Hawk's just felt "bad" Any way, no science behind it however I would recommend picking some up and giving at least one box a try, I have now found my cartridge of choice. Cheers Alex
  6. Trulock & Harris in Fram, closer to us than the others. Open at the weekend and late thursday, closed on Wednesday, v helpful so far, even though i have yet to buy anything there.
  7. im just waiting for the fields out the back to get hammered then Ill knock on the farmers door and ask again if I can take care of it for him!
  8. what lake is that? My colleague uses catch 22?
  9. possibly, but it as I said it needs to be looked into, I am looking at the most simplistic view first, if that fails its a no go, but hell it never hurts to ask!
  10. as I understand it, they pay for the rights but just dont do anything with the land, it all needs further investigation but I need the right platform on which to do it.
  11. I have a friend of the family who runs a large (ish) farm / estate not very far from where I live, Now i cannot use the land to shoot on because the pest control is subbed out to a syndicate, who don't ever shoot on the land and there is no game birds released to shoot or driven shoots at all. I was considering approaching the farmer to ask if I could tender for the syndicate when it comes up for renewal, albeit I know f all about syndicates, as A, ill provide an actual pest control service, and B, it would be quite nice to have some land that I could use whenever, C.) id love to learn about these things. Can anyone tell me what is involved? I was thinking that if this were to be a goer, I would front the money to lease the land, then get someone more experienced to "run" it, that way its a permission I could use but without the stress of managing it on my own, adding the decided number of guns in due course, but a couple of months after the leases was agreed, this way I dont mess the farmer about and we can control the pest control. any advice, direction or experiences would be appreciated as its all a bit new to me but would love to learn. Many thanks Alex
  12. Yes its all very sad but who here thinks getting a Shotgun is too easy? I think its about right, what they can NEVER protect from is the change in peoples mentality and to protect from the effects from that you would have to license all items which could be classed as a weapon from diy stores etc etc.. hell anything you can hit someone with surley.. its a teflon coated slippery slope. Ill sit in my armchair and wait.. RIP those who have suffered at the hands of this man.
  13. its carnage in Suffolk too at the moment, they are everywhere, I give it 6 months before I hit one of the species..
