  1. Hi I've seen some Aguila Super Colibri Ammunition in 22 Long Rifle, 20 grain lead round nose with no powder, just the primer, on the net and they are said to be very quiet. I've seen a few threads from 2008 asking about availability but no information on if they are available in the UK was given. Has anything changed? Can we now get these rounds or are the CCI CB Long all we can get? Jon
  2. Not sure why but they just don't group in the CZ. The 29 grain CCI won't cycle in the 10/22 so you have to eject each round manually but they do group. There isn't anything wrong with the CZ rifle because once I put some regular subs through it groups were fine. Jon
  3. What options are there as far as ammo choice goes in 22lr? Save me having to buy a new rifle. With supersonic ammo its more likely to drive through the hard soil rather than ricochet, but you scare all the rabbits away after one shot and if it does ricochet then there is more energy than with the subsonics. What about the CCI 29 grain low power stuff? It doesnt work in my CZ but does quite well in the Ruger 10/22. Less energy so less chance of deflecting? Or should one just wait for rain and the ground to soften up that way I can use regular subs? Jon
  4. Are they cheaper because most people who use air rifle don't have a FAC so the demand is less? In terms of power how do they compare to a 22lr? Would an FAC air rifle be good out to 40 yards? And get a clean kill? I only use the 22LR at about 50 yards anyway. Due to the lie of the land an air rifle would make a lot more shots available without the worry of a ricochet taking out one of the sheep in the next field. PCP in .22 or .177? Any suggested good brands that are not too pricey? Thanks Jon
  5. Anyone have any advice on how to reduce 22LR ricochets on a dry field? Thanks Jon
  6. Hi, Thanks for clearing that up for me, I thought you could use a SG on SGC anywhere you had permission. I just can't use the FAC shotgun. I'm hoping the CZ doesn't like the cci ammo and its accuracy will return once I start feeding it the regular diet, rather than a gun problem. Jon
  7. Hi, I just want to check, I have had a piece of land cleared for 22LR only, does that mean I can use a SGC shotgun on the land as well or is the land clearance only to do with firearms? Secondly my certificate is away for variation and I am out of ammo, can my father buy ammo and transfer it to me, do I need to write it down or just add it onto my certificate when it comes back? Thirdly, I had some CCI 29 grain ammo and I couldn't get it to group at all in my CZ 452 22lr, all over the place, it was fine in the ruger 10/22. Has any one else had this problem? I don't have any 40 grain ammo to check with at the moment. Jon
  8. My local club had an open day where I got the chance to fire the .338, I got 3 rounds for a fiver. The shock wave would probably be enough to take care of the rabbit, wouldn't even need to hit it. J
  9. Hi, I have a Mossberg 590, it has an 18 inch open choke barrel with the 6 inch extension to make it legal length. I have been in contact with Mossberg USA and they do not make a barrel with multi choke option or vari choke as the 590 is designed for "self defence". Is it possible to have the barrel threaded to take aftermarket extended chokes? Even with the extension? It would make the gun more usable for both practical shotgun and vermin control. Any experience, advice or suggestions apart from swapping it for a M2 or 870 as I'm quite fond of her. Thanks Jon
  10. I ordered a few bits for my Mossberg 590, the delivery as per the website was a week and that's what it was, will order from them again. Jon
  11. Ive got the certificate numbers but no copy, didnt think it would take long to get it back, I will take a copy next time it goes in for variation/vreplacement though. I do normally keep it on me. Thanks
  12. Hi My certificate went back several weeks ago for a variation and has failed to reappear. I would like to shoot on my permissions but this will mean that I will be transporting firearms and shotgun without my licence to hand. My question is do I need to carry my licence or is it just the norm to do so. I dont know how long it will take for my licence to come back. Thanks Jon
  13. Hi, I have a small permission near my uncle in. Its too far from my home to return and put my guns in my gun safe so I will need to keep them safe at his house overnight . for one night. He doesn't have a gun safe so what do I need to do to keep them "stored securely so as to prevent, so far as is reasonably practicable, access to the guns by an unauthorised person. I have a cable lock which I can put through the triggers and remove the bolt from the rifle. If that's not good enough I could always get another safe and put that in his house, but that's not the cheapest and I won't be shooting there that much. Any advice welcome. Thanks

    Mossbery 590 parts

Hey, I am looking for; (1) either a solid pistol grip stock or sliding pistol grip stock for Mossberg 590. (2) 4 shell side saddle for Mossberg 590. (3) Practical shotgun stripper belt clips Many thanks Jon
  15. Magman, I understand why high pressures are dangerous, but why low pressures? Thanks Jon
  16. Would there be any point to reloading the 22 hornet so that it was subsonic? If loaded with a 40 grain bullet would there be any advantage over the subsonic 22LR? would the trajectory be the same as that of a regukar 22lr, would you need to use a 45 or 50 grain bullet to see any difference. I just wondered if you had both subsonic and regular loads (about 2600fps) for the same rifle you could adjust so that you didnt need to re zero when switching between rounds. Jon
  17. Hi I am looking for, (1) Second hand (well loved) CZ 527 in .22 hornet, extra mags a bonus, can be screw cut or not. (2) Complete set of reloading equipment for 22 hornet. Face to face only, Lincolnshire area. Jon

    Which Scope

Ill get the best scope I can afford then, my RFD has the CZ American in 22 Hornet, 20 inch barrel, and he can do new for £530, seems reasonable to me. Jon

    Which Scope

Thanks for all the info Mungler, I think the S&B 8x56 is a little too expensive, however the Nikko Stirling Gameking 4-16x50 Px Adj Illuminated Reticule Mil Dot looks like agood buy and if it hasnt fallen off a 222 then it should stay put on the Hornet. I was chatting to my FEO's son today and he had a Ruger and couldnt get on with it, bought a CZ and is getting on really well with it, he recomended the CZ having had both and its cheaper than the Ruger. This will probably get a discussion going, with funds being finite, would you spend the money on getting a better/new rifle and not so expensive scope, or would you get a good scope and a second hand rifle. My initial though, once saving has been completed, would be to go for a new CZ Hornet and either the Nikko Stirling Gameking 4-16x50 (£80) or the Hawke 4-16X50 AO (£90). Jon

    Which Scope

Guys, Thanks for the info. Its for fox and the odd long range rabbit. Is the Ruger the only difficult rifle to fit a scope to? Is the CZ in Hornet easy to get a rail and scope on? I like the 6 shot mag on the Ruger but if its going to be a pain I might look at something else, any sugestions for hornet rifles? Thanks Jon
