  1. I use 7 and 7.5 for pigeon all the time and they are great for hide shooting with a lose choke out to 35/40 yrds. I do not like using the larger sizes bar for pheasant then I would use a 30g number 6 but bigger than that is just not needed for me but we are all different when it comes to what we like, I think most of the time though it is just a confidence thing, if you think you will not hit something with one type of cart you probably wont as you will think yourself into a miss.

6.5 seems a cracking little round to me. Looked at the number 6 in the bin ends but my gun just does not like them, double loads in the gamebore with the 65mm casing and the 6.5 have around 40 more pellets per round so paternation will be better with a very small reduction in hitting force lost.

Will let you know how I get on though as I am always happy to join in with debates! :good:

  2. Just got my .243 variation and when the firearms officer was here he suggested 60 rounds of ammo at any one time, I did not think this was an issue as I doubt I will fire a alot at one time, cert terned up and it states .243 caliber 60 off and then t also stated .243 exp Missile 600 off, I am right in thinking this is 600 rounds of expanding ammo?

I know this is a daft question but when you see that sort of quantity I could not but help question it as this is the only type of round I will be using on fox and deer.

  3. I thought that would be the case too but it just states on condition 6 that the smooth bore gun shall be used for shooting vermin on land of which th holder has lawful authority to shoot. The .243 has a few more conditions though,,, :good:

  4. I know that is a bit specific, not too fussed with the rifle as I have never found a gun that I can shoot better than but the optics is a must. Not in a rush and if the rifle has a few scrapes on the stock not fussed either as it will be a working gun not a painting but again the metal work and optics must be crisp and well looked after.

£1200 - £1500 is what I am looking at but less or a little more as I want the right set up.

Also happy to travel about as collection only but not more than 100 miles as fuel will cost more than the gun these days!

  5. Do not stop doc! They are great, how many members? must be millions, I think we should have a vote for doc's photos page as I am a deffinate yes! Oh and I have shot at loads of pigeons recently but mostly missed.

This is a club forum for pople who general get on and generally like the same sort of stuff have a good chat and a bit of banter, long may it continue. If this was just 100% dedicated to where pigeons were then I think even I might get a little bored in the end,,,

  6. Just been out to the stables and noticed that the swallows are back doing up the nests. Summer really is here now! Will try and set up a camera this year to get some photos of these and the robins nest that is at the other end if I can.

  7. Evening,

Been doing a spot of tree rat clearing at the old mans place and managed to bag 7 so quite pleased. Question I have is what is the best way to get them when they are in the drey? mostly pine and beech trees so quite high up, I was half tempted to blast them ut with a number 3 shot but did not know what effect that might have.

Do not get to shoot them that often so want to make sure when I do I do a good job, I reckon I cleared 10% of the place by foot so still a lot more ground to cover.

  8. My FLO popped round to check mine the other day after putting in for the .243, he was virtually hanging off the thing with a foot on the wall testing the wall bolts, I knew it was strong but the thought of the FLO being crushed by my cabinet falling on him might not have helped my application.

No bolts on the floor so down to you, I would say use your judgement as sometime when a newer built house has the strange light weight breeze blocks (grey and very soft) i might be tempted to bolt to the floor as well.
