the cpsa runs the biggest events in the country and i know if i shoot them i will have a classification to compete against others of a similar ability. fact is your not going to see a british open run at your local strawbaler. and i like big events. i made the point of blowing the shells throught the gun because mungler made a point about not being able to laugh at the reg shoots. my point is, thats ok, its not for you, however there is others that get something from being members of cpsa
-
mungler you seem to have a real problem with anything cpsa. fact is, is that it is the only organisation to join up to if you want to do well in the sport of clay pigeon shooting. and if you just enjoy the straw balers and like a laugh on a sunday, thats fair enough, your business, but you have to recognise that others however thrive on competition and want to better themselves at there chosen sport and dont want to hear loudmouths behind them when they are trying to shoot. that is the beauty of the straw baler i guess, you can make all the noise you want when someone is shooting. personally though i never saw the attraction of moronically blowing shells through the gun for the sake of it and never wondering if i was 20 feet of a certain target, but each to there own. yes cpsa aint perfect, but i dont believe it is anywhere near as bad as you would lead other less informed shooters on here to believe

you killed all them pheasants and the hare with 28g 7.5s?! some people would say you were crazy and iressponsible to do such a thing, but if you put that on them it will bring them down. nice to see not all out there are in the 36g 5 brigade for everything including snipe at 15 yards!
-
but is it not the point that these "serious competitions" have very little to separate them from the "straw balers" anymore? the biggest difference i have noticed is the bloody price of them!
-
i see, so both you and evil elvis both condone leaving wounded birds around to suffer? and lets say that all 15 were dead, and thats a slim chance given the guy has just started, is it still ok to leave them to lie as they fell? is this the general attitude of pigeon shooters? in my opinion it shows a total lack of respect for quarry, and shows that to most they are just a number to talk about down the pub
-
We picked up 42 pigeons (and ferals) and 4 crows/jackdaws, there must have been another 15 down in the woods behind us, but with no dog we had no chance of getting them (at least Charlie had them to feast on instead of my pheasants...) so your basically saying you likely left wounded birds to suffer because you didnt bring a dog, and even if they were dead, you just leave them to rot? thats a nice portrayal of pigeon shooting. but then thats the done thing these days, they are pests arent they, get them shot

im in the same boat, struggling to find that many in the whole of northern ireland!
-
if its a good sized adult mallard then 1 between two people should be a more than ample portion. maybe to ample! altho to be honest i have been known to sit down to my own big fat mallard and polish him off quite swiftly, there aint a whole pile on them like you might expect once you start cutting into the breast
-
your right there i think he has pushed the self destruct button. i dont think he could get a better manager than sir alex for understanding his off the field antics and giving him a chance to get his head sorted and all that. but he seems to be throwing it all back in saf face. just another primadonna footballer, the teams bigger than one man. at least berba has starded to show his potential
-
so its been confirmed that rooney has requested a move out of old trafford. quite frankly i dont think on his current form that he would be a big miss. has he gotten to big for his boots? he is damaged goods after the world cup, it shattered his confidence, and i honestly cannot see him getting back to anywhere near the level he used to be capable off. flog him sir alex, and strengthen the whole team with his super rip off transfer fee!
-
i bung them in the fridge in garage for couple of days at this time of year then pluck the entire bird, i think breasting a mallard especially would be a hell of waste, loadsa waste there doing that. legs are the best part of them! its ok if your a lazy sod though and cant be ***** plucking
-
surely what i do with them will be my business would that be correct? they are vermin after all. oh by the way, are you filled with much compassion for the pigeons this weather??!
-
jeez have you got some sort of problem with me? i thought this was a friendly forum, what did i do! how many rabbits did you get? im heading out tomorrow with our freshly recruited ferrets for a run
-
just what the hell is concertation?!
-
havent a clue what you are on about, and you have still not answered any of the points i put to you, i believe because you cannot. this is what happens when you talk drivel about having compassion for pigeons
-
im sorry but alot of shooters class pigeons as vermin, compared to the almighty pheasant anyway. and you would be surprised at how many shooters on here, if they were honest will tell you they end up dumping a huge majority of the pigeons they shoot. oh yes they come on here and tell you they had a great day and paint a great picture masking the grim reality of the rotting carcases in the hedge. i didnt think many would have a problem with my actions to be honest, im controlling a pest, as we are told so often in every shooting magazine you lift
-
jeez i dont know what the problem is here guys, we constantly hear that we must keep pigeon numbers down and thats what i was doing, some efficient vermin control. and the farmer has no probs with it whatsoever. i dont shoot them in the spring or summer il say that much, i couldnt deal with that. open your eyes guys, a huge percentage of pigeons end up in a hedge even if you wouldnt like to think they do
-
had a great day today, shot 358 woodies. cudnt get my jeep into the field i was in and cudnt carry them all back so i just dumped them in the hedge. well they are pests that need controlling after all aint they so il lose no sleep bout it.
-
michael?! whats that all about? and im sorry your post there was a load of old drivel. and how bout i dont use your name at all, hows that. and is it compassion do refrain from shooting these so called starving birds, which i saw none of, and blast them when they are on the nest with squabs. you answer me is that the actions of a man who shows great compassion for pigeons?
-
seems to me that oth doesnt like his status as the king of all pigeon shooters being challenged. and i have looked in on this forum for a long time without actually joining. i remember oth writing a topic about showing compassion in the winter as numbers will plummet, then what does he do, he went out and shot hundreds in the spring and summer! now thats compassion! he also posted other topics questioning whether pigeon numbers were down and **** like that. didnt take him long to get these theories out of his head
-
luckily any farmers who let me shoot dont instruct me kill every pigeon i see and i have shot in some places for 15 years and have never heard this said to me. and i enjoy my shooting too, i just have a very different outlook on it, im a pothunter, not a vermin controller as many pigeon men like to be classed nowadays. sadly also an awful lot of birds dont make it near a gamedealer, they end up in the hedge. you have your opinion on shooting, i have mine
-
breast a woodcock?! what about the legs? best part of them! i wouldnt say i specialise in them, like a shot at them though, at most i would shoot 20 in a season. i know what is involved for the birds to get here and have to much respect for them to overshoot them. i know many who dont share the same opinion and operate on a shoot on sight policy
-
for starters yes i would be happy with 5 birds if they had been nice shots and cleanly killed, oh and i will never shoot 190 no matter how many pigeons i see. once i get to 35 to 40 i say well thats a nice bag, and it is slow painstaking stuff plucking and cleaning 30 pigeons leave alone 190! the feathers and innards of 190 pigeons would take some getting rid off.
-
kinda sad to see that to some it seems to be all about the numbers, and not just being out and getting a shot
