this is what i bought when i started reloading for my .223 and using h4895 powder, win brass, win primers and a-max bullets i can get a 100 yard five shot group that i can cover with a penny. i thought when i had more money i would buy a dearer set up but i cant see the need when all i shoot is rabbits.

  2. Objective Lens:

The objective lens is the lens closest to the object being viewed. It is measured in millimeters in diameter. A larger objective lens allows more light to enter the scope. In a three to nine by forty (3-9X40) scope, the 40 is the objective lens size.

    Power:

The power of the scope is the same as magnification. A 10X (ten power) scope magnifies ten times, and makes the object appear ten times closer than with the naked eye.

  3. What makes it better than buying, is that you can accurately reproduce a load with the ballistics you like, time and time again.

Flat with a light bullet for fox or a competition load, or a bigger bullet, they will group better if home made.

You may not save a fortune - maybe a 10p a round, if you are careful.

You win on consistency and a load which suits your rifle and you. Its also an obsorbing and relaxing hobby

  4. Thanks bud :good: I'm definitely going to need a stock up soon anyway so I'll try the RC50s :good: without wishing to steal the thread! Are the fiocchis quite a fast cartridge,(heard that from someone but dunno if there's any truth in it). Which would you pick out of the two anyway,(rc or fiocchi)?

    Cheers!

i like the RC's best, cant say why, just had better results, could just be a confidence thing. they are cheaper too, £4.20 for RC's and £6.00 for fiocchis. i dont know about the velocities, i cant say i see any difference and niether do the geese   .

  5. when i am shooting snipe or woodcock i am always looking around making mental notes about places i cant shoot towards e.g sheep, my mate or the dog. so whenever anything gets up if it goes in to one of these areas i know not to take the shot. i find its not like shooting rabbits where you have to look for the quarry, you can look around and make these notes because you cant see snipe till they are are up and you can usually hear them first if you dont see them. i hope this makes sense  it makes sense to me

  6. i have owned two ten bores and the biggest problem for me here in shetland was tring to find shells loaded with BB or AAA for shooting geese. the only shells i could get were either winchester or remmington turkey loads and they were usually loaded with no4's wich i found didn't work all that well because by the time the shot had opened up to give a pattern that wasn't peppering the bird the energy had gone out of the small pellets. ordering shells from south loaded with BB or AAA cost far too much . i was using my tens purely for geese, one of them was a spanish horror (i think it was built to fit a horse or something) with 3 1/2" chambers and the other was an old damascus hammer gun with 2 5/8" chambers which i had to reload for with black powder and no 1's. i never felt that a 10 bore had much more reach than a 12 but that was probably because of the cartridge choice i had.
