  1. Gibber, gibber... I have been reading so many posts saying that they have had 150-180 bag days, I have been on my own permission for just about a year and seldom see more than 10 flying past at 1000ms. I am now very desperate to get a chance to see some volume and beat the grand total of 3 in a day... Happy to pay and have own insurance, kit, deeks, shotguns and carts.(BTW have been shooting since the age of 10, I am now in my 40s) I live in N. London and happy to travel for an hour, hour and a half I guess so Essex, Hertfordshire, Cambs or anywhere..... Can do weekdays and weekends as work for myself and can get round the boss easily.
  2. That is a resounding NO then. Thanks alot everyone, just saved me a good deal of hard earned cash.
  3. Hi Guys, as title announces I am thinking of giving some movement to my little display as I have only really been out a few times and never really been able to draw much in this year and thought some movement might work. I have 12 FUDs and a flying decoy which I put on a stick facing into the wind which does look fairly convincing but thought with the spinning wings of the Air-pro things it may just pull something in. I dont really have room in the car for a rotary as well as having to lug all the kit about a mile on foot so looking to keep things light. Anyone any views or tips on the spinning wing things would be greatfully received? I'm not sure that it is also that I am shooting within the M25 and the Pigeons are just a bit more savvy to people....??
  4. There is a place called Thames Valley Pigeon Shooting nr Oxford that I went to a couple of times. The chap running it was very capable and really knew his stuff so you always saw a good deal of birds. I would say the only thing that has stopped me going more is the price. It was £150 a day in the high season but all you had to do was turn up with gun and shells. I've just looked him up again: Will on 01869 277534 or 07831 195736. He does do his job, driving around the surrounding area flushing birds out and kept in contact throughout the day. All in all a good day out. best of luck.
  5. Thanks a lot guys for the input, all really helpful and it shows you all seem to know your stuff. I'll do some searching and let you know the results. Thanks everyone. Cheers, Alex
  6. As in the title I am thinking of buying a chargeable air gun for a quieter approach to bagging some rabbits and Pigeons. Has anyone any ideas on the sort of power needed to put down a rabbit at reasonable range with these types of guns? Alsowhat sort of money can you get them 2nd hand? Cheers, in advance. A
  7. Hi Guys, having had my Beretta for about 6 years it is starting to feel a bit loose and I was thinking of getting it looked at by someone who knows what they are talking about just for a once over. Can anyone suggest how much it is likely to cost and where I might find someone in or around N. London. Cheers in advance. A
  8. Hi There, anybody got any recommendations on the best big bag to carry all the gubbins for decoying in? Thanks, A
  9. Take the big fat cigar you are smoking out of your mouth before you bring your gun up! Ouch!
  10. It's interesting that having shot just one bird in flight before setting up, there nothing in the bird ie it had nothing in it's craw> What are they feeding on I wonder and is it that they just dont like going on the ground at this time of year??? There were still plenty of acorns about but nothing seemed to be happenning in these spots either. I have a good deal to lear me thinks... Also does anyone have any recomendations of bags to carry all the clobber as the large plastic John Lewis bag I had doesn't really fit the bill especially when I dropped a tree trunk on it when setting up and tore it in half! ******!
  11. Hi Guys, I went out yesterdsay on my permission and watch for some time the flight lines of a whole host of pigeons that seemed to flock between 3 or 4 woodlands during the day. Having arrived at about 11 and watched for approx an hour I decided to set up some decoys and a hide below an oak tree. The deeks were sut up in the cornr of the field nearish one of the woods on rape which had clearly been devoured on some previous occaision so it all looked good. I sat and waited for 3.5 hours and nothing came anywhere near to even paying interest in coming in. The only birds that I saw were all flying 100/150 high in large flocks moving to and from these different woods. My question is and I appreciate no-one has a definitive answer but do you think it is likely that my set up was pants (12 flock 50/50 shell and full bodied and a floater) or that birds are not feeding from the ground yet? It was frosty yesterday and pretty windy here so there was a bit of moisture on the rape all day which I don't know whether this puts the birds off landing. Any advice would be greatly appreciated as this was my first solo attempt and hopefully I can improve but wonder whether it was the conditionsand not my complete incompetence.. Thanks in advance. A
  12. I have the Neoprene Chameau and have found them the most comfortable and warmest wellies I have ever owned. My cousin has the leather lined ones and on a visit to Scotland in Nov last year he could not feel his toes after half a day out in the field. For Hunters there is a good mail order shop that tends to offer slight seconds( off colour or misplaced logo) at greatly reduced prices. may be worth looking at. John Norris www.johnnorris.co.uk
  13. Hi Guys, I am a 41 year old male with 31 years experience of shooting (first gun a Cooey 4:10). I'm fully insured and looking for a shoot somewhere out of N.London to be able to get away within a reasonable distance mid week or w/e. I am more used to walked up/rough shooting with some pigeon hide experience but not the sort of expertise yet that a lot of the guys on here seem to have so very keen to learn more. I've just bought some netting and decoys but really unsure as to whether I am just buying all the gear with no idea... Ideally I would like some permission to shoot rabbits, pigeon, vermin etc on land in Essex/Hertfordshire or anywhere within an hours drive and just open to suggestions. If anyone has any pointers I would be very grateful. Normally I shoot in S.Wales or Hereford but really wanting somewhere closer now. Thanks all in advance. Alex
  14. Hi Elby, can you tell me what the set up is? Do you provide decoys/nets etc or is it bring your own? Also can you do Wed? Cheers
