  1. After cutting down some monster leylandii over the last 2 weekends, we found a sorry looking cherry tree that had been growing behind them in among the scraggy willows.

It's about 50ft high but very skinny and has a bend in it where it has been trying to get some light. There are no branches lower down, but at the top there are 2 branches and seem to have a lot of blossom. I assume it has borne fruit in the past as there are a fair few cherry saplings growing around its base.

The willows are coming down shortly.

Now it has access to light, will it thicken out and grow lower branches on its own, does it need topping, pruning, or is it a lost cause?

    Any advice much appreciated.

  2. I don't understand any of this. "People saying I got covid but luckily it wasn't bad as I have had x amount of jabs." Unless you have an unjabbed twin brother who caught it from the same source at the same time and you can compare symptoms, you have no idea whether you would have had it better or worse.

I had one jab at the beginning of this but decided against any more for various reasons I shan't go into here. I got the virus just before Xmas and I personally didn't suffer particularly. I lost my sense of smell and taste and felt a bit light headed and tired for a few days.  It was a drag but nothing worse (to me) than most colds around that time of year. My wife and son had it and they both had a sore throat but none of the symptoms I had.

Fact is, it's different for everybody and I'm not going to shelter myself away forever for fear of getting it again.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but we aren't epidemiologists, so we rely on best guess scenarios from people who have been proved incorrect time and time again, personal experience, or a bit of both.

It's not my place to tell anyone else what they should or shouldn't do. Nor is it their place to tell me.

Mask up and jab up if that's your thing, and don't if it's not. It really is that simple.

I bet you anything that property is classified as unregistered at the land registry. Thousands of old properties have never been registered for different reasons

If that's the case anybody can try to claim it and it's quite legal if they go about it the right way.

They have to be able to show they have "occupied" it for a number of years. Keeping bees or a goat on the land used to be favourite. It qualifies as occupation

First you go to a solicitor and get them to witness an affidavit saying you intend to occupy the property. This registers the starting date.

Then the really sneaky ones would turn up from time to time with a couple of bee hives or a goat. Take some photos and then clear off again. Only staying for less than an hour

They were careful to get the photos printed at a place that stamped the date on the back. The boots labs used to do this.

Then however many years later, armed with their affidavit and their date stamped photos they could apply for the courts to award them title to the property.

People made fortunes, doing it to multiple "abandoned " properties or parcels of land at the same time.

It looks to me very much like somebody is after making a claim on your neighbour's property

Thanks for that info. I'll pass it on.

Looks like somebody is trying to claim the property by adverse possession.  If they can prove they have kept chickens there for seven years (even if its only off and on) they can claim legal occupation and register it as their own. Its still very common in Wales.

It used to be known as squatters rights but it's a bit more difficult these days. Still possible though

    Interesting. 👍

  5. Last night my neighbour came round to tell me 2 of my chickens were loose on the road. I told him I don't have chickens so we left it at that.

This morning there were 2 piles of feathers. 1 in the road and 1 outside his house. Not sure if it was fox or car that did that.

There is an old derelict cottage between my house and his house, set in the woods. The owner only comes here a few times a year to cut back the jungle growing round his house.

By chance, he was there this morning so I asked if he was moving back and had chickens. He said no but there was a bowl of water and a bowl of chicken food outside his back door. No-one has been squatting in his house so who would keep 2 chickens out the back of someone else's house?

Better do a night patrol tonight to see what's what.

  6. Anyone have a problem with Amazon delivery drivers?

A few deliveries ago the parcel was thrown over the gate, into my hedge, so when the gate was open, I couldn't see it. Proof of delivery "Handed to customer."

2 deliveries ago P.O.D was "Handed to customer." I looked in the hedge. Not there, so looked on my CCTV to see him standing right outside the house, looking at it, then he went round the back of the neighbour's house and left it in their shed.

Delivery on Saturday "Handed to receptionist" but it was in the hedge.

Never had this problem when Royal Mail delivered their packages. I've got the point I don't want to use them now.

  8. No good relying on the wrong spelling on the V5 or everyone would spell their name slightly wrong to avoid prosecution.

More worrying for you is all the Goody-two-shoe, Peter Perfects on here who have never sped in their lives, calling you irresponsible, a potential murderer and demanding your tickets are revoked in the absence of capital punishment.

Walshie you found the power button to yours have you not a word when Scotland beat England other week 🤣 or maybe you will be making the predictions again 😣

Good to see you taking it all in good sport, like you like to give it out.

Some people are sensitive to contact with some the Juniper family.  I say this because as evergreen and with needles - at this time of year they are still there whereas many other plants are dormant.  I have had rash from Juniper on my hands after contact.

    Thanks. I'll look into that.

  11. 260mph seems reckless but no speed limit is no speed limit. If they think people should drive slower, put a speed limit in place.

If he was racing which is illegal, charge him. If not, charging him with anything would purely be someone's opinion rather than the law.
