  1. Chaps, Hoping you can help - my mates (and my son) are off to do some tank driving near Mansfield on Saturday 13th of October and we were hoping to get some shooting in at the same time. We're going to Haywood Oaks activity ctr do do the driving and they actually do clay shooting there ...the lady I spoke with was (politely) reticent to let us go around on a Saturday as the "non-regular shooters may be too slow". So I'm looking for another place to shoot. I'm the only licence holder so I would be supervising the others as they shot ...this isn't really a concern as they're sensible grown ups (One's a Teacher and the other is a former Royal Marine.). Any suggestions of where we could go? J
  2. Chaps, I bought an older Lanber a few months ago and I've noticed that when I'm shooting, it starts to get harder to open fully - sometimes needing a slight pull to open all the way. Is this a normal phenomenon and how can I solve it happening?
  3. Congrats lads and excellent work Neil - you made a difference there to some lads and to the sport. Congrats lads and excellent work Neil - you made a difference there to some lads and to the sport.
  4. The footage on the website, showing the departing shot pattern is ace. Worth a look for that alone.
  5. Nice one Beretta! Thanks. Mrs P and I will probably drop in there then. Does Catton have a Section 11 or Section 21 Certificate thing - Mrs P hasn't got a SGC (yet) so we need to be careful where we go. Cheers, J
  6. Evening Gents, I was wondering if there was anywhere open on Easter Monday in the NW - I don't mind a drive. Hoping to make the most of my time off. Cheers, john
  7. What I wanted was a safe, well laid out site with helpful staff - that was precisely what I got. Top marks in my book so I thought I would share it with everyone ...what with this being a forum for that kind of stuff. Likewise, if I'd been and they'd acted like muppets I would probably be on here bitching.
  8. Chaps, Dropped a ******* the other day and took my wife shooting. She loved it and is eager to go again. At the moment, we're going to be limited to grounds with a section 21 but I'd like to expand that so I was wondering what the procedure was for her getting her SGC - I've already been checked and we've got provision for 4 guns in our (formerly my) cabinet. Do we need to go through the whole process again with her? Hope you can help, John
  9. All, I just wanted to buck my trend of only posting on forums when something bad happens and actually put a bit of positive stuff for once. I had planned to go to MCSC last weekend to take my eldest and introduce him to the sport (as it happens, he couldn't make it, so I took my best mate - who had never shot either), anyway I emailed the club to ask for info - Andrew was really helpful over the course of several emails (each one patiently and pleasantly responding to the stupid questions I asked.) - he even suggested that we avoided Saturday as there were a few Stag-do's so the practice stands would be busy. When we turned up on Sunday and he was dead helpful (as was the lady that worked there, although I didn't catch her name), even suggesting an order to tackle the stands. All in all, it was a stress-free, seamless experience and I will be back ...I've arranged to take the wife next Sunday. John
  10. Update on this - Also spoke with Mike at Fauxdegla and they have section 11 as well
  11. Hi All, Newbie question here - so please don't take the **** Where is the best place to get Liability insurance from? Is it cheaper to join something like the CPSA and get the insurance they provide? Or should I just take it out separately? Hope someone can help, J
  12. Thanks Phil, will my F-I-L be able to just accompany me around the different stands or will he only be able to have a lesson? I'd like to be able to take him around a few of the stands and let him have a go. J
  13. Are there many or any grounds like this in Merseyside, South Lancs or north Cheshire? Similar question but with my father -in-law.
  14. Got all excited there - I live in Rainhill so that would have been handy! Has anyone shot at Rixton or Rainford?
  15. Evening Gents, I'm new to shooting and I live in the st helens area of merseyside/south lancs. I'm looking to find a club or shooting ground in the area. I've looked at various directories but none of them give you a flavour of what the place or people are like. I'm looking for somewhere friendly where I can pick up some tips and won't get the **** taken out of me for not having a browning or other expensive gun. I've been to the dolphin a few times and I liked that, but it's a good 45 mins to get there and I was hoping for somewhere closer. All suggestions welcomed. Thanks, John
