Sorry, My Fault!
To win a place applicants must; in nor more 200 words, submit a piece of writing explaining what they think gamekeeping does for the countryside and why they should be picked to take part.

This is the first draft of the letter i will be entering the competition to win a days driven shooting with. Please can you read it and point out any mistakes/changes i could make? Also i need to cut it down so if there is any repetitiveness, please could you tell me where to allow me to remove it.
There are huge benefits from game keeping to the countryside. To start with, the extensive pest control which gamekeepers carry out allows the song bird population to flourish. Also, it helps ground nesting birds by lowering the number of incidents of nest raids. The latter is shown especially on the grouse moors of northern England and Scotland where without predator control; the numbers of grouse would not be significant enough to allow shooting. Also on the moors, management of heather undertaken by the gamekeepers plays a large role in providing young heather shoots for the birds to eat, a place for the insects on which they feed to live, and hide the young grouse amongst. As well, gamekeepers are the eyes and ears of the countryside. They help in the battle against illegal hare coursing, and badger digging. According to statistics released by the National Gamekeepers Organisation, nine times as much of the British countryside is looked after by gamekeepers, as is by national parks and nature reserves. The re-population of Grey Partridge into the UK has largely been down to gamekeepers breeding new, and conserving current numbers to eventually reach the aim of having 90,000 pairs in the UK by 2010.
I would like to be selected for this opportunity because I will find the experience a great pleasure, and enjoy it highly. Also I have been a volunteer for BASC East for 3 years now and have enjoyed it a great deal helping at other Youngshot days and game fairs.
Many thanks

After Problems With crows at my chicken feeder, i had a larsen trap with a carrion in for a little while, caught one. killed it and threw it in the field at the end of my garden. swapped the original call bird for a magpie, and have caught 3 maggot pies in a week. talking to my keeper friend who keeps around me, and he says he has caught 80+ magpies for 2 consecutive years now.

I need help...
BASC are offering the chance for a team of Youngshots (BASC Members under 18) to win a days driven game shooting.
All i have to do is write 200 words on what gamekeeping does for the countryside.
Now can i please have your help on specific items which it helps with and why they are good. If you could bullet point them, i will write them into a letter.
Many thanks

NB - If your son/daughter is a BASC Youngshot and has attended at least 1 activity day with BASC, Details for entry can be found HERE.

Are you sure they are pure?
Cuckoo Marans shouldnt have the white neck as shown in those pictures. They look more like a commercial laying hybrid like the Silver Nova. The Silver Nova would be a Light Sussex X Maran.
Also.. I hate to say it, but £15 is a bit steep for that aged bird.

I just use "Garlands" Solvent Gun Cleaner for inside the barrels. And i used to used "Garlands" Gun Oil for external use (£4.00 a tin). But I went to the game fair at Glemham and i found a giant aerosol tin of Browning "Legia" spray for £8.00.
They seem to do the job well?

I'm sorry, but it's been said a million times, doing that dosn't work anymore, they'll figure it out quickly enough and refuse a payment if you do have a crash, and you can be done for driving without insurance.
No, it is actually okay, as long as you state that the main driver will be the young person, in this instance me.

I know exactly what you mean. I havent yet bought my first car/van, but i am already being governed about what i can buy because of the insurance. To bring down the cost, i will be a named driver under my mum on whatever car i buy, but still the average quote is £1000. Its just ridiculous.

Some Law Advice Needed
in General Shooting Matters
Posted
Right, I have a question which a friend of mine has just posed during a chat.
I passed my driving test in August, i am 17, and i am in the process of buying a van. I shoot once a fortnight minimum, and would like to take my gun in the van to the shoots, thus not having to rely on mum to give lifts. However the question posed is: Is it legal for me, being 17, to have my gun in the van whilst driving to and from the place of the shoot where i have permission to shoot? The reason for this is that now they have raised the legal age to 18, me driving wit my gun on a public road, means i have my gun in a public place.
Where do i stand on this?
Hope it makes sense..!
