  1. Pretty much the same, rabbits seem to have disappeared........told the farmer threat was down to our studious lamping efforts:-) Few pigeons about on the roost; tons of rooks and crows on the farm yards! **** year on the duck and goose front tho. Seen plenty of pigeons on one of my perms, but wouldn't decoy! Ended up with 3 after a full day:-)
  2. That's good then, as was said above, was just saying Wat worked for me. Must have just been lucky so far!
  3. Thought as much! Wat you shooting down there? You get many Pigeons? Iv found my perms a bit thin on the ground lately! Hopin for a better year this year tho!
  4. I don't see how I ridicule anyone in my post! All I said was I don't dress smart cos I'm in my work clothes most of the time! Hope your not to upset tho!
  5. That's Exactly what I was doing "the pasty". Some people eh! Just letting ya know Wat works for me! Where you? I take it with a name like that you are in Cornwall?? I'm not far from launceston!
  6. I have been reading loads of posts about people having trouble gaining permission. I am not writing to gloat about it, but I have never had a problem really! As a bathroom and kitchen fitter, I work for lots of people, a few have been farmers and I always have an ask and I think I have yet to have one say no! I tend to go a different way home from work every day when I'm on the hunt for permission and try every farm I see! I currently have about 10 large permissions, and several smaller ones, like paddocks and small woodlands. And they are for pigeon, rabbit, pheasant, duck, goose, anything really! I don't dress smart, I tend to be in my work clothes and driving my van! I just tell them who I am where I live, and ask if there is anything they want shot.........and name drop any other farmers they mite know that I already shoot for. Don't want to sound smug, just beginning to wonder if it's people approach that puts farmers off.
  7. hi does anyone know of a reasonable gunsmith in east cornwall? got a cheap spanish sxs that needs a look at cheers
  8. Took it apart myself! A peice had sheared off the auto safety which I suppose has stopped the gun opening somehow! Will take to my brothers friend tomorrow and see what he can do! Thanks again for your help!
  9. Ok guys, thanks for the help! Will try all of the above and of it doesn't work then my brother knows someone who is very hand with working on guns! Thanks again
  10. Yeah, it was looked after, well oiled and cleaned. I have only just got it really, fits really well so am gutted! Any idea on cost of a fix, cos it was only a cheap knock about gun for the hide!
  11. Got a 12g sxs, took it out the other night and after discharging both barrels it is now stuck shut. The side lever feels like it always has but it is shut and won't budge! Any ideas??
  12. I have a gamo shadow 1000 and regularly shoot rabbits and pigeons with it. Took a pigeon with it at 43yrds yesterday. It groups well and have never had any problems with it. Can pick them up new for about £130!
  13. Having been planning our trip for weeks me and my shooting partner were really exited about this weekends wildfowling! We planned to get to the marsh at about midnight, set up and shoot the incoming tide under the moon. All was well. Set up and sat on the foreshore. Was real quiet so decided to have a snooze leaving my mate waiting for a shot. 2 hours later.............nothing! After another couple of hours we decided to leave decoys and hides on the foreshore and go back to the truck for some sleep as the tide would cover the marsh. Woke up late and ended up rushing back out to the hides, in the process, I lost my footing and fell over in a waist deep Chanel:-) thanks to my mate for helping, if that means laughing while I got to my feet!!! Got got back to the hide and sat there for about another 3 hours and............nothing! Couldn't beleive it! Had been cold icy all week on the run upto the trip, thought it would be having with duck!!!! Still enjoyed it tho, always nice to get out, would have been nice to have something for the table tho!
  14. Alot of the pigeons iv had in the last while have been full of ivy berries too!
  15. Cheers smilersmiff, cracking gun, nice to deal with you!
  16. I went out a few weeks ago, all looked good and as soon as I was set up and got in my hide, fog rolled in so thick I couldn't even see my decoys! Sat for 3 hours in the hope that the fog would clear but to no avail. Ended up with one crow...........but only because he practically landed in me! On me, not in me:-)
  17. Had a break in the rain, went to have a look, got there a bit late as trees were full of pigeons, they all flew off when I got there! Only had about an hour but had one pigeon for one shot:-) happy days
  18. I think I will! Been reading some of the posts on here and some good times been had in the rain, will see how it goes! Cheers
  19. Hi all, I have a permission with a small spinney on it, it usually has a few pigeons flitting around it and roosting in the trees. The weather has been rubbish all night and is ment to be raining most of the day! If there is a break in the weather do you think it would be worth headin to the spinney for a look?? Cheers Darno
  20. I was on my way to work and about 300 woodies lifted of a stubble field, I know the chap that shoots the farm as I have shot with him once before, so I was straight on the phone. He said he would be out on Saturday and could use a second gun:-) We met in the morning and he dropped me at a small wood with a corn stubble field beside it while he went to the woods in the next valley. I saw hundreds of pigeon but none within range and none interested in the decoys! He phoned and said we would have to move! We ended up on another field where I shot 1 woodie and he had 4! We moved again and had about 30 in another field and about 6 in another little copse! Finished the day off in the woodland next to the first field...................amazing, I had 10 woodies on about as many minutes:-) a phone call to my grumpy mrs bought me another hour:-) and I ended up with 25 woodies from the copse:-) my best days pigeon shooting yet! Sorry it's a bit of a rambling story but had to share it!
  21. Thanks alot, just got back from seeing another farmer who has a huge farm with lots of arable as well as grazing for rabbits. The farm is about half a mile away from where I live and he said since I'm local I can shoot there:-) Getting a nice bit of land together now, I have the neighbouring farm aswell. Thanks for the advice on rooks to mr williamson. Where are you then?
  22. Well after the success of last time we thought we would have another go. We got to the farm before sunrise and set up the hide and decoys. After about 4hours we had 6 rooks, but we're fed up seeing the rooks all pitching in on the neighbouring farm so we decided to pack up and call it a day! On the off chance we thought we would go and ask the neighbouring farm if we could shoot there and we're surprised when he said to "help ourselves":-) We only had a few hours left but ended up with 35 rooks and a few jack doors! Farmer said we are welcome back any time:-) happy days!
