i have a sako quod in 22lr 22wmr and 17hmr thats one gun but three barrels to choose from,22lr curved trajectory and quiet, zero at 50 yards longer than that the then you are into hold over mode.22wmr still a curved trajectory not as much as the 22 sub,but alot more knock down power and you will get a crack when fired due to the speed of the round.then the 17 hmr i love this one, flat for 100 yds and so fast, bunnies don't know whats hit them.hope this will help you make your choice.happy hunting.

hi there psyxologos had the same problem when i came too make the choice, brought a sako quod in 22lr and 17 hmr.changing the barrels sounds a great idea at first but can mean you have to take the scope off to get the barrel out, which was a pain as you have to rezero your scope again.got around this by fiting leupold gun smiths quick release mounts.the other problem is the zero will not be the same to each barrel so you end up rezeroing again.ended up getting another scope so now have a dedicated scope for each barrel.having said all that it is a case of horses for courses if you are taking more long shots then the 17 is the one.i find i use my 17 more and more over the 22lr even with the extra noise. you find you take longer shots, then the louder noise i find is not such an issue.if you think most of your shots will be up too 60 yards then go with the 22lr its a killer and no noise, like most pepole have said you need both, so the choice is yours which looks to me like you are going down the17route.good luck

you learn something new every day, still think its a rip though.we have a realy good turner at work and i know that would be a walk in the park for him, that said i must admit we do have a realy good machine and fabrication shop, far more than a gun smith would have so maybe that it why it tends to cost a fair bit more than i thought, its all down to how much plant you have to help get the job done at end of the day.

£7oo to rebarrel i cant see that ,its the cost of a new gun why would any one bother to reberrel ,colin says a sako barrel unscrews i have a sako quad and a barrel for that is £208 .if a new barrel say cost £500 thats £200 to unscrew one barrel then screw the new one in! i am in the wrong game thats over 2 days work for me to make that sought of money and i am a skilled sheet metal fabricator of some 30 years.thanks any way for your input men, geuss i wont be doing that little project.will just look for a good straight gun.

have seen guns forsale that they say needs rebarreling, how is this done?are the barrels scewed in ,pressed in,heat shrunk in. how do you get the old one out if it not a screew fit.does a new barrel come over size to allow for machining of some sought?where would you get a new barrel from, how much are they?i ask this as have seen a 243 with a jcg precision fluted bolt fitted to the action but the barrel is pitted.seemed like it could be a good project gun maybe.just wonderd how much it would cost and is it worth it.the gun is a sako 75 and is up for £600 do you think this is too much,or would i end up with a gun thats cost more than its worth?

i take it you can shoot the fox15 feet down its den what a wake up call.you wouldnt have to bury it as it already in the ground, dont know how to get a slot on my fac though!pest control or earth mover could be a loop hole there.
