  1. Im a farmer through the day... we have a '95 M-reg Defender 300tdi. Bought it in 2003. Other then operator error it has been faultless. Needs abit of weld for MOT these days, and had a new rear X-member 4 or 5 year ago. Show me 1 jap clap trap **** thatl still ve going at 20yr old and still towing a 3.5t livestock trailer every other week...

Some are trash, but not them all. We also has a Series III 2.25 a long time ago - it was faultless too.

The Jap pickups are nice, real nice. But when you look at depreciation they are stupid expensive. Also the known faults would make you cry!! L200 engines were made from toffee... Nissan Navara big ends from plastic... the Fords seemed pretty good. Could argue the new ones are all good - but how long before the weaknesses are found?? L200 are weak built... Isuzus seem to be the real deal - but i bet they rust, just like the old ones did.

Buy what you like, if your happy who cares. The new 4x4's will be the most unreliable you can buy - far, far too many electrics to go wrong in mud.

  2. Im with Mick Miller and a huge +1 for the ASE Utra.

Mine is either 8 or 9 years old and still like new! Its abit fiddley to clean/rebuild but it is very good! Its also the best moderator iv 'heard' on a .22

Downside - it adds more length as others to the barrel and it is probably the heaviest moderator for a rimfire... but the weight has never been an issue. Iv done alot of walked shooting with it.

  3. Grafters Lightweight Ambush boot. £45.

Bloody brilliant! First pair lasted 10 years. More as happy with 2nd pair so far. First boots were still on the original lces but already replaced them with on 2nd pair with IronLace laces and the job is a good one!

  4. Well didnt get out over weekend, Fri night was stupid thick fog here and i was in the pub Sat night... will try again this coming weekend and see how it goes.

Iv nothing to compare my ICOtec to but im impressed with it - even if it is the cheapest model the do. Ofcourse, if i never get Charlie with it itl be useless!... (but thatl more likely be my fault rather as the callers).

  5. Andy - those Grafter boots i put the link up for are waterproof and very hard wearing. General leather/boot care will keep them perfect... the tounge and lace area let abit of water in but its quick drying when your running about. Very comfy fit with not much breaking in needed - and lightweight!!

My old pair which lasted 10 years were never looked after or cared for, they only let water in when the stitching on one panel gave up. Off Amazon they were £45 delivered.

They are ambush/assult boots so designed for military and armed response police units. Perfect for what your doing. Get them bought, you will not be dissapointed - spend what youve saved on beer!

  6. Ah well no luck last night. The site i had wanted to use, the cattle were occupying so i left them be and went to another area i usually have luck sitting out but the wind wasnt ideal and no show - maybe i used the wrong call...

How long do you guys use a call for at a time? I left it running maybe 10 mins then stopped it for a few mins before starting it again... was there for an hour.

Also would you pick 1 call and stick to it, or change after a while?

  7. I decided to buy the ICOtec GC101 instead... it came today. Seems pretty good for the price (but this is my first caller so what do i know?).

Weather is pretty good here and i know theres some young foxes ranging about so might take it out tonight and see what happens!

  8. Loft is a no-go... hatch is directly above our bed!

If there was an upstairs the job would be grand - but a single story house where theres nowhere to hide is a pain!

She wont mind... she likes the rifle, has commented before she wants me to get a shotgun so she can do clays - shame, as i want another rifle... or two!

  9. My rifle is in my cabinet up in the farmhouse...

I live in the cottage. I moved 6 years ago (when brother got married) and FEO is happy rifle remained in farmhouse with only me having access... he and his wife now have 2 kids and as most of my shooting is at night - i think the time has came to move the cabinet.

Anyways... The only available built in storage space that would make it concealed is right beside the back door - so not suitable for placing the cabinet atall.

So in a small 2 bed cottage with no obvious place to put the cabinet - what do i do?

Only thing i can think to do it put it in one of the bedrooms, inside a wardrobe which has no back, and bolt it to the wall. Is that acceptable?

  10. Just out of curiosity...

what x mag. is your scope set at when your trying to zero?

Iv a 6-24x50 on my HMR. The 'natural' thing to want to do is wind upto 24x and think youl pop round after round through the same hole... unless your in a clamp/sledge, that aint happening!

The higher the mag, the more your movements are exaggerated in the scope. In theory the 'wobble' is the exact same at 24x as say 9x and you should still be able to hit the target, and group just fine... but in the field i find you see more movement, try harder to steady it, you end up getting flustered which knocks your steadiness meaning you miss by more...

  11. Well... when i say high, the ones i wear are just 8inch - but anything is better as an ankle boot!

These are the ones iv just bought (delivered today actually) and are the current version of the ones iv just binned:

    http://www.patrolstore.com/Grafters-8-Inch-Leather-Ambush-Waterproof-Boot-M107A.html

I bought mine off Amazon - they are about £45 delivered, compared to most other sites which are £45-£50 before delivery.

The old ones stood up to thousands of miles walking/hiking, shooting. Farming/shepherding. They stood upto being covered in **** working with livestock to tractor work, fencing, dyking, the odd bit of forestry and firewood and everything inbetween!

Iv basically lived in them for most of their life and they never let me down.

The new ones look very similar and appear to be built the same way/to the same standards - so heres to the next 10 years!

  12. Im with Pothunter. Boots win every time for me.

Im a hill farmer/shepherd by trade - i wear Seeland PAC boots all winter/spring and then a lighter high boot in the warmer months. I ***** hate wellies!!

Just bought a new pair of summer boots - old ones are 10yr old. Only binned because the stitching gave up between 2 panels. Never a seconds care given to them and until the stitches went, were as waterproof as the day i bought them.

  13. Since getting my HMR in 2006, i have used thousands of CCI, Hundreds of Hornady and some Remingtons through my rifle...

Iv never had a fault with any - but i am aware of the issues and keep an eye out. Havnt used the rifle atall much in the last year, the last batch of ammo (Hornady) was bought 2 years ago. They still function properly.

Only negative thing i can say about any ammo is i tried Remington once - found it to be as accurate as the rest, but i felt it lacked 'knock down' force on Carrion Crows compared to both Hornady and CCI... grand on rabbits though!

  14. Its the same gun as the Mossberg. From what iv read and seen on youtube it looks a good gun, and a bloody bargain! As Underdog says the trigger seems to be the biggest issue - i dont think theres any problems or defects with it, its just heavy and rough to pull.

Im sure someone on here has one, they had a thread a while back. I may be wrong but i think it was Dekers.
