  1. Thanks chaps -- all is now well with jacks tail , i'm sure it was what you have called cold water tail , though its still not held completely as it was ( otters tail ).

My big worry now is wether to take him swimming again or not :yp: , he as been swimming plenty of times before and he really loves water .

    What do you think ?.

    swim or no swim excercises.

    cheers

    Darren .

  2. Palombier -- this could be the problem i'm sure , thank you so much for posting the web link , i'd never heard of it before , its really helped , i was quite worried.

He did a lot of swimming on monday , so obvisously used his tail more than usuall .

Browning & madspringer -- you quite are right i should of taken him to the vet on the day, but i did actually phone him on the tuesday morning, and he advised it may just be a muscle strain , give him a day or two .

so today he's just had a small walk on lead , he can wag his tail a little now and he did sit for his dinner , though i can see that he's uncomfortable , i'll give him a couple more days , if no improvement , i'll take him to the vet .

The funny thing is ( not for him ) that i pinned him to the floor and lifted his tail out of the way ( ouch :D ) so i could have a good look at his balls and bitsto see if there was anything sticking in him etc .

Any one else experience this limp / water tail phenonima .

    Thanks for your help lads

  3. Hi All -- question :- can dogs break there tails :D

I took Jack ( lab) out on monday for a swim , he was fine in and out the pond , retrieving dummies etc , he had a good run round through the long grass by the banks , going a bit mad , leting off steam etc ( i had not taken him out for 3 days ).

Anyway , all seemed fine but a few hours later when at home, i noticed that he was walking with his tail tight between his legs , looking very uncomfortable.

i had a look , but could,nt see any damage, i felt around the base of his tail and he let out a yelp .

i'm not sure what to do , this happened two days ago , he is fine in himself , but the tail problem is the same , the poor lad can not even sit for me , and every time i try and take a look he gets nervous.

As this happened to any one else , do tails repair after damage , could it be just bruised , could it be a testicle damaged or something else in that area.

Any ideas please let me know .

    THANKS

    Darren ...

  4. Dave -- my dog did and still does the exact same thing ( i,m also a baldie)

solution -- i ,m not sure mate , but mixing the dummies seemed to cause the problem for me , he would choose the fur and feather dummies over the uncovered dummies almost every time ( more interesting etc ).

so i uncomplicated things by having one retrieving session with fur and feather and one session with the canvas dummies :) ...

the only other thing i can think of is to buy some sent ie pheasant , rabbit etc for the canvas dummies...

  7. Castration -- what are your thoughts on it please .

As anyone had there dog castrated , and it has improved there handling , or visa versa ...

At what age would it be best to have it done.

The reason i'm thinking of having it done to Jack ( black lab ) , is that he's been a right pain this last month , he seems to have lost the plot slightly .

Its like every thing i've taught him as gone out the window , he's disobedient , he's marking territory like its going out of fashion , he's concentration as not been as good ( but never was anyways) , and he's even wandered off over the fields to the neighbouring farm .

Is this his teenage hormones kicking in , he's now 14 months old ( next week ).

i don't want to give up on him , he's supposed to have a decent pedigree ie . Breeze of drakeshead , Haretor mark of drakeshead , Lewyn lumpus , Flash mount socrates etc , and may more ( if there genuine papers that is !!!).

So i need your advice again please , on what to do , good points and bad ....

    THANKS

    Darren . :):lol::lol:

  8. Anyone know where i might be able to get on a beating line at the start of the new game season .

willing to bring dog , but will keep him on lead if necessery , as we both need the experince .

i'm in the Notts area , but will travel .

    Darren ...

  9. i'd like to know how to gut and clean a pigeon please , keeping it whole as in oven ready for the roasting tin .

i just usually use the breast meat in stir fry's etc .

but after seeing whole pigeons ( oven ready) for sale at the chatsworth farm shop , and seeing how expensive they are , i thought i'd try it myself .

    Darren . :)

  10. Ears -- France was or seemed to be the easier choice , i agree , i also like the sound of Canada , Australia even New Zealand , but these country's are so hard to get into , i thought France might just be the easier option and also cheaper , but i will consider any where , where i can buy a property with a few acres of land and i can have my own bit of country side .

    Darren .

  11. cheers for the reply's lads .

Browning , which area of france did your friend move to , how did he find the cost of living etc .

Any one know the rules and regs etc .

Any more info would be welcomed .

    Darren .

  12. Thanks for the reply's lads .

Palombier -- he's 12 months old , and as been doing really well just lately ( thanks to advice from this forum ) , but just the last few times i've taken him out , he's been a real **** for chasing the rabbits , do you use the same whistle for stop as well as recall :D or do different tones help .

Jonnyni -- how did you get her to heal , with-in 200yds , what was his training method , and do you find 2 whistle tones help or should i stick with one.

    keep it coming lads .

    cheers

    Darren .
