  1. Wookie -- fine on pcp's, but on springers not so good i'm afraid.

i have got through 2 deben IR scopes, both on my HW98 , both within 20 -- 30 pellets useage, the eyebell glass came loose both times, now have a simmons 8 point on it and seems fine.

    Darren .

ps the hw98 is under 12ftlbs, so not a recoil monster.

  2. hi jonno -- that was proberly me if it was on the bbs ( sorry mate).

i am well pleased with it , scratch proof and weather proof, holds 3 cartridges

    2 3/4" , 3" , 3 1/2" magnums , but not the 2 1/2" shells

works as fast as you can pump it BRILL!!! get one if you can mate, there was one on guntrader last week .

    Darren.

  3. I went for a second hand Miroku mk10 in mint condition £750 and i'm very pleased, its as good a quality as a Browning and was better ( for me to shoot) than my Beretta silver pigeon, so i think this make may also be worth considering in my opinion anyways.

  4. byshu -- a venom stage 1 kit would be the way to go for your hw80, it will smooth out the firing cycle giving less recoil, as far as power, venom springs are usually smaller than standard ones because they are so efficent, thus you would/may need washers to increase the power.

but if you are 12ftlbs limited as most are , then spring on its own is enough as it will wear-in and more than likely probably increase inpower with use. so to stay on the right side of the law you must keep a check using a chronograph on its out-put.

    Darren .

ps .saying that if you have fac or no limits , you can have a maglaza conversion , but i think this is only done at the venom workshops .

  5. hi mate -- i,ve got a venom long series silencer on mine and it works great and looks great too , also the evolution silencer is a very good choice.

but on saying this a lot of the noise you hear is coming from the action of the hw80, during the firing cycle not just the muzzle .

    Darren .

  6. NTTF -- Thanks for the help , you are so correct in saying he has lots of toys lying around which he carry's about ( i did,nt realise it was a bad thing) from today i will put them away and only use them at play time for retrieves.

    All the best

    Darren.

ps .looking forward to your next advice .

  7. Thanks chaps for your reply's.

NTTF -- yes i would be very greatfull for any help and advice.

Here is the story so far.

Black lab -- Jack , 7 months old.

walking to heel on lead only, will retrieve dummies and toys , but looses interest quickly.

Off lead will recall to whistle, and sit to verbal command (sometimes) and stay (sometimes) when close, though not when afar.

Have taken him out with blank firer and to local shotgun club, and is fine with gun fire.

Uses his nose very well searching out ***-bits, rabbits etc .

Thats about it really , not much i know, i realise it will take time , but not sure where i/he should be at this age anyway.

The biggest problems at the moment are :-

he will not retreive 100% and deliver to my hands, sometimes he runs straight to the dummy sniffs it and leaves it , and comes back to me with out it expecting praise.

Also distractions are a major problem , when i'm trying to train him, how can i make more keen to stay focused on me :yp:

How do i get him to stop in his tracks (off the lead ), and listen to me for instructions example, stop, sit, change direction etc .

As i said not really sure what to do, if i need to start all over again , thats fine , but please tell me,

    Advice and help most welcome.

    Darren .

  8. Thanks cranfield for the info.

    Double H -- no from a gun shop (neveilles , Alfreton , Derby's)

i never really took much notice of the model of the gun , just the look and fit

it was just that i,d seen a"silver pigeon steel" advertised in the mags and noticed it said "silver pigeon S" on the bottom of the reciever of mine.

i was wondering what the "S" actually stood for. and if it was the same model.

    Any one know???

    Thanks

    Darren .

Also is there any one on here who could date the manufacture of it if i provided the serial number .

  9. As any one got any good tips or advice etc, for the training of my 7 month old lab, i'd like to use him as a gun dog eventually if poss.

He's got a good pedigree from Drakeshead and flashmount socrates lines, and i've been watched him work/play and can see he has potenial.

I like to start him on basics and see how he goes, are there any good videos or books you all could recommend.

    Darren .

  10. can some one tell me which model Beretta i have got,

its a 28" barrel , thin rib with single ball sight, nice scroll engravings(not game scenes) lovely walnut stock etc.

underneath it say "silver pigeon S".

what does the S stand for ie. sport, steel , standard. Thanks again.

    cheers

    Darren .

  11. can someone please explain the use of chokes, i,ve just bought a s/h beretta silver pigeon , it came with 5 chokes, they are notched 1 to 5 notches.

which is for what type of shooting , please.

At the moment i'm only shooting clays until i'm confident enough for pigeon and game.

which chokes should i be using for this and in which barrel .

Thanks in advance for your advice .

    Darren .

  12. sorry NOT -- went and tried a new one this afternoon, very nice indeed, but the s/h Beretta just piped it.

ps. the condition of yours is excellent and the price seems very fair, but some chaps comments on this bbs over values did swing me abit, plus i would have liked to see and try before i had bought .

The new lanber deluxe was £550 the Beretta silver pigeon was £750.

    Darren .
