  1. I can no longer make it I'm afraid :(. Didn't realise I double booked myself that weekend. Thanks for the offer though grrclark. I'd defo be up for it next time though. Auchterhouse maybe? It's right next to me . Duncan
  2. I would be keen for this, but dont drive. Is anyone coming from Dundee area?
  3. Haha its not too bad really. Thanks for lending me it, very kind of you.
  4. Thanks for today everyone. I had a great time.
  5. Thanks squash I already did . Nice guy he was very interested in its story.
  6. But what's to be done? I can't see any other options than complying and signing as many petitions as possible. But we all know how much that helps.
  7. I think that, sadly, everyone is overestimating the number of air rifles people are going to consider licensing. Most people won't consider it worthwhile to jump through hoops to keep the rifle in their attic. Even being from quite rural Scotland, I think that 90+% of Scotland's air rifles are going to be handed in to be destroyed. So while there will be a big increased burden on the licensing system, it won't be quite as huge as everyone is expecting.
  8. Haha. I would love to put my foot down but prison time doesn't sound all that great.
  9. Haha. Some of us did, unfortunately. The air gun laws are part of the new "devolved powers" as a 'sorry your referendum failed' consolation prize. It seems ridiculous. I'm not sure the police have a hope in hell of licensing half a million air rifles before next April, on top of the already long wait times for other FAC's. I'd like to add that even though 87% of all the experts and independent bodies they asked said this was over the top, they did it anyway.
  10. Disagree Timmy. Apparently it will be big news in the new year before the law comes in to effect in april. Penalties including imprisonment after the date comes into effect. The message will be hand them in to the police or licence them.
  11. Such a shame about this new legislation for scotland, but I've hardly heard anything about it? I have an air rifle and a sgc, but dont think it would be worth applying for a FAC just to keep it for occasional plinking, if they would even let me. Do you guys think I should sell it asap? The other option would be to give it to a relative down south to take care of. Surely most of Scotlands air rifles will be unwanted come next april and will be worth less than nothing as hundreds of thousands are handed in to be destroyed? Thoughts?
  12. Hey Bob, I see were nearby . Hope to see you at the Scottish meet up
  13. What time is that competition? I'd love to come see what it's all about.
  14. My shotguns are stored at home, and I study at uni about an hour away. Do you think I would be in the clear if semi regularly I took a gun down to my term time flat for a week? I was thinking of purchasing a small safe for the fore end, and a cable lock to lock the action to the radiator out of sight?
  15. I noticed sporting competitions are marked out of 100. Is that just 100 random shots at the 12 or there is a more organised format?
  16. Okay, I'd just like to resolve the eye issue before I learn the wrong way! Thanks for the number, don't have a whole lot of money being a student, gun servicing sounds expensive but I'm sure it is important. I'll give the guy a call anyhow .
  17. I'd like to get competitive eventually but I'm worried my eye dominance will stop me? I think I'll shoot with the Horton for a few weeks, at least then I'll have consistency in the gun I'm using
  18. Thanks for the advice guys. I was at Auchterhouse again earlier today, feel as though I am improving. They said they can store shotguns for a reasonable price, would it be worth shooting with the Horton on a regular basis or should I stick with the o/u I've been hiring? Also according to Drew? my eye dominance is neither left nor right. I think this is bad :(. So far I've just been closing one eye and that works okay but I've been told perhaps I should buy glasses and black out a spot? Thanks for all the help, Duncan.
  19. I hope this isn't off topic but I noticed a lot of news about banning lead shot? I hope this won't render these old guns obsolete in the future :(
  20. Oops I meant to type 2 1/2 for the purdey. I didn't mean paper wad I meant paper shells? Is that an issue? Thanks for the help.
  21. I think it's 3 1\2 inch nitro proof for the purdey at least. The Horton is 2 3/4 I think, but not sure. All the shells I've fired through either have been paper, will plastic make a difference?
  22. Great, not sure I have that many shells left though. Can I buy shells there that'll be okay for the old guns?
  23. Would it be okay if I join you guys? New to shooting but keen to get involved.
  24. Hey there, my name is Duncan and I am a 19 year old student in Dundee. My grandfather recently died and left me some shotguns, and so i decided with my dad to try shooting. I have now recently recieved my shotgun licence and have a SxS purdey 12ga, which was my great great grandfathers, and a SxS 12ga "horton" which i dont know much about. There is also a very old .410 single barrel which someone has told me may have been a poachers gun as it is unmarked. I would very much like to get involved with the sport, and have shot locally at auchterhouse a couple of times. Unfortunately I cant seem to find a local club, and so I was wondering if there were some more experienced shooters who could show me the ropes and help answer all the questions I have? Hopefully there are people about my area . I posted the same thing to clay shooting forums but there was nobody in my area, someone suggested I post here as well. http://www.shootclayforum.com/index.php?/topic/16926-new-to-shooting-advice-dundee/ For pics of the guns, thanks all.
