  1. Hey all, I'm also going to post this in the guns section forum so please don't hate...ok, I have ordered an FX Impact even though I tried the gun, felt lovely and light in weight, shot really well even for a newbie like me, but my cheek was right at the end at the top of the butt, my head was at such a bad angle when trying to get eye relief, there was not tall enough mounts on the FX for the scope, it just didn't feel right but I was swayed by the grouping I had which was very very tight...also theres no way you can add a sling without more cost... NOT VERY ADJUSTABLE..

Anyway, the very kind people at rifleman firearms (Mark) has said not to worry as I can exchange for another rifle no problem, my question is I have looked online at...

    • BSA R-10 SE
    • WEIRAUCH HW 100 KT LAMINATE ADJUSTABLE
    • AIR ARMS ULTIMATE SPORTER

what are peoples thoughts on the kind of gun that I'm after, (PCP) I believe all these are short Carbine style rifles, I don't mind bull pups either, but I do like the adjustability of the butt, and cheek rest and I really like the swivels for a sling, I find that hopefully if I get a permission to shoot vermin, carrying on the shoulder around the farm is gonna be a massive benefit, as well as going from the range to FT targets and HFT around the club, please people offer me some advice, yes the Impact is a looker but also more and more people are saying now that they've had a lot of issues, and I'm talking about gunsmiths telling me about the issues.

I know the difference in cost is considerable between these guns and the Impact, but as my finance is based on the cost of the Impact, if I do change to another rifle then I can always add a NV set up to make up the cost.

As always, many many thanks in advance for all your help and advice. :good:

wouldn't worry about folk saying they do or don't like what you've got, everyone seems to like AA, unless you have something else.

just practice with her and enjoy.

Thanks, I know it shouldn't bother me when others say things like that but as a newbie knowing they know more about shooting just makes em think, just  a little. :good:

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

What will you use it for?

Eventually, hunting but for now simply getting accustomed to it on the ranges.

Only in my dreams. Smooth twist or smooth twist X ?

smooth twist x, really dubious now though as I went to a shooting club today to check them out and they weren't too keen on them, trying to recommend Air arms etc as they use a single shot system and Impact doesn't..

They all look good in the adverts where the humidity is very low and the conditions are good.

The first question is what do you want to use it for? Dedicated or add on. Give some thought as to how you want to use it and that will help you work out which way to go.  For me the quality of add on's is very good and certainly good enough for my needs out to 350m without tying up the rifle with a compromised day scope.

I am amazed the nite site head up display stuff is still going, when you can get some very reasonably priced head up NV like the one from Dave G on here if you want to go down that route.

I use a Ward 800 for foxing as i like the normal shooting position rather than head up. One of the big determinants is the quality of the IR. I use a Ward Sunranger with ruby pill which is excellent. Worth a look at the Night Vision forum dedicated to these topics for some detailed advice and thoughts.

    Thank you, will do.

  5. Hey guys, I'm in the market for some night vision gear and was wondering everyones thoughts and opinions on what you've maybe used, or seen in real life. There is a new ATN sight coming out thats a 4K sensor that records in 1080p and can stream the same time, scope also can be used at day, I've also had a look at Nite Site Viper, with it being 100 yards thats plenty for small vermin shooting. Any thoughts, opinions or ownership advice is as always, very much appreciated.

I presume you're after rabbits, so I'd be looking for rabbit burrows damaging hedges, crops being damaged, grazing being hit hard etc

Yes, rabbits, rats some birds if needed too, what do most farmers / land owners request disposal of them, do they expect the rabbits to be gutted by us or do most farmers dispose themselves?

Good to see another shooter from Cornwall. I’m Perranporth way, shame you don’t shoot shotgun as I may have a place on my little pheasant syndicate coming up.

I'm about to join a shooting club to get associated with my new rifle but ideally after a permission or two to help local farmers with vermin, birds etc that are being nuisances, so if you know anyone then please spread the word, I'm in the process of gathering some cards and a printed letter to provide local farmers with, just to give them some information about myself and what services I'm hoping to provide for free in exchange to shoot on their land.

fellow cornishman here, I'm down on the lizard pen so cant help with perms, best way of getting perm I found is to look around, find a problem with rabbits or the like then approach the farmer to help with that specific problem, I found that general permission on their land soon follows if you do a good job.

    Have fun!

    Thank you

Ok thanks, any advice on knowing what to look for if a farmer is having issues would be great and what to look out for, cheers.

Not Hayle Golf club - we shot thousands there over a few years till the owners lad got old enough to do it himself with his mates.

Something to do with pitch and put if I recall correctly - and starts with the word Green.....

    Gwinear Golf Pitch & Putt?

Hiya, There's plenty places to ask around them parts. I have shared permissions scattered around Hayle for when I visit family there. Can't help wi them because I share them wi other people but:

There's a small golf club between Hayle and St Erth - near a go kart track that might get you started. I got permission there a few years ago but cut my intended long stay short and never went. Worth a try but I can't remember what its called. My shooting partner down there doesn't use air so won't mind me giving that away.

Fantastic many thanks, my aim is to use google maps or an ordnance map to scout farms etc, get a letter printed saying a little about myself, also give a card with my details on and issue them face to face, maybe some I'll post a little further a field, I'll in fact use google maps right now to search said golf club, you don't mean Hayle golfing range do you?

Penwith or Gwinear ring any bells?

  12. Hey all, just wanted to say a quick Hi from Cornwall, I'm a newbie to Air rifle shooting, I plan on joining 2 local clubs here in Cornwall to get acclimatised to my gun and the ethics within the shooting community, I am also fairly mature at 45 lol, my wife wouldn't agree with the mature bit, but hey ho..Eventually, I'd like to get some permissions to help out farmers or land owners.
