  1. On my quest for a new (and first) foxing rifle I searched through a significant amount of material on the two forums, this one and an Irish one (boards.ie). I reckon that if someone had to sit me down and get an answer from me now, I would now be siding with the Remington 700 VS SF II. My local gun dealer suggested SPS, just as well I looked and asked around!!!! Reason why, a lot of happy owners and good comments (re ammo, accuracy, long lasting, simple set up), checked shooting magazine and was in the top 5 centrefires, number 2. Maybe pople will not agree with me…but I reckon one can’t go wrong
  2. Ya thats cheap, I paid £46 for mine from Redstone redstonebooks@btinternet.com via Amazon...must say I didn't shop around just saw it and bought it
  3. I have the same problem, I am right handed but when both eyes are open the left one is the more dominant, in other worths I am looking accross the barrel. I was getting my first lesson in clay shooting and all the instructor did was just put a 1 cm squares bit of masking tap on my glasses so that my left eye could not see the tip of the barrel......results were unbeleivable.....marked improvement in my shooting with both eyes open and the left one being restricted to peripheral vision only....must get some custom made glasses.
  4. Poor Mr Pigeon, if the hawke didn't get him, he would have got a belly full of lead Safe to say that pigeon wasn't having a good of it!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. Looks like such a nice dog, heart hoes out for ya mate ST
  6. Na, to be honest it looked really neat and tidy, and it came up on web site people who bought this also bought…… I actually have a new 12v motor bike battery and charger for the pigeon rotor, but I just liked the look of the belt one and fell victim to impulse clicking………ah well could be worse could be snorting cocaine!!!!!!! Oh BTW got Robert Buckwell book in post last yesterday, had a quick look last night, all sorts of pictures of skinned foxes, wont be leaving it on the coffee for my missus’s casual reading!!!1
  7. Hope so, thanks to John Galway for giving me one of the cheapiest placves to buy it, for anyones info both cost £156 lamp>60 and battery 89
  8. Just bought the light Lightforce Striker 170 and Belt & Pouch Battery Pack 12V 18Ah
  9. Nice one, think 2 votes will do, cheers lads
  10. Hi, can anyone recommend a quality lamp that will both fit the cigarette lighter socket and connect to a 12 volt battery
  11. thanks for the pics Shaun, from looking at the picture I would think it was mosty probably a BUZZARD. Must say eventhough it wasn't a good couple of hours shooting, it's great to experience these type of things when shooting regards
  12. Cheers John, I have the added bonus that I live next to my parents, they own 80 acres which they rent out and we are well known to the local Gardai as my father is an ex cop…..so it should be looking good………..just what to buy………… I have bought the book foxing with lamp and rifle by Robert Bucknell…..will read that and read the threads, I’m sure a trend will emerge sooner or later
  13. Ya, was pretty chuffed I managed to fool the hawke. I must say that any pigeons that wre around were landing in the formation, not much around though
  14. If your happy with it that's all that matters - but personally Tikka's wouldn't be on my list. I would advise doing a lot of homework before making your final desicion - don't just go off what others say on forums - it has to be right for you. Yes it is possible, but you might have conditions - being mentored for a period etc (justified or not!). But joining a club is a good plan - plus, if your inexperienced, I would say spend some time down there first before a.) buying a gun, and b.) going out alone (get your practice in and your safety up to speed first). This might not be what you want to hear at present as you may well be excited and looking forward to getting into fox shooting with both feet....but it is worthwhile. Best of luck I would agree with you Oly...the funds are set a side to purchase but I'm not going to rush into any purchase till I'm 1/ Full aware of all the makes and models and know the best value gun that suites my needs 2/ Fully knowledgable on how to use it safely It is very easy to start loking at websites and jump head first....
  15. Was decoying at the weekend, not much about just sitting in the hide when a hawke swooped down and attacked the lead decoy in the "V" formation......lovely looking bird, don't ask me what type he was but not a big one. Needless to say he didn't have much success. He then flew to a pretty high altitude a glided over the pattern.
  16. Thinking of purchasing a .223 rifle for fox shooting, from reading various threads the tikka t3 tactical appears to be the one that people are happy with..........is it possible to buy one of these straight without ever owning a .22 before....as in will they give one a licsnse (i have permissionand am in processes of joining club)
  17. I have the opportunity to buy two side by side shot guns, a doctor locally wants to get rid of them as he too old.One is a AYA and the other is an old side by side make Barnes and it's serial number is 8 so I reckon id must be pretty old. Anyone know anything about Barnes and AYA guns.
  18. Went fox lamping this morning with my father, wasn't a fox in sight, although I suspect that because of the full moon and my make shift lamp Mr Fox say me coming for miles. Anyway came away with a rabbit. Also I couldn't beleive the noise of the BB cartidges.
  19. Good shooting Tikkamark, enjoyed the narrative as well about the trendy hair do!
  20. As per one of my earlier posts, I’ve decided to take up fox lamping as the pigeon population is not great where I shoot at the moment(prob due to crops), my next two purchases are going to be a rifle for shooting foxes and a clay pigeon trap, I can spend up to say 2K euro for both. As I found with my last post asking questions on this forum pays plenty dividends as one soon gets a good idea of what to buy and what not to buy from leveraging off people knowledge on the forum and avoids buying something that they later find they shouldn’t have. So at that what’s people’s thoughts on a rifle for shooting foxes / rabbits and a clay traps for the above budget amount. I reckon with pigeon shooting, fox/rabbit lamping and clay shooting, I should always be able to get some form of shooting in every weekend (not a happy camper when I don’t get out on a weekend!!!!) regards G
  21. Just back from Courtlough range in Balbriggan Co Dublin, couldn't beleive the facilities they've up there. I wanted to practise shooting driven pheasant so the instructor brought me to stand which fired the clays from a tower well in front of me and shot the disc over my head....must say the instructor was an old fella, was really good and made huge difference in my shooting just with a practise run of 50 cartidges......
  22. cheers Jayward, defineltey going to buy one inh the next month or so
  23. Flippin hell....that was flippin sick...they obviously enjoy seeing the dogs taking on the boar/ cougar........it's stuff like that that gives the "anti's" ammunition against decent country sport which is praticed by the majority
  24. Ya I think I may print out the 8 week plan and give to my wife and hope for the best You never know
