  1. If you're desperate to try something cheap, pointy & comes out "a bit lively" give marksman pointed a try(14.3g?).LOL Seem to make a bit of a hiss as they travel, but boy do they arrive! You may be able to get them to group reasonably, despite the ballistic inefficiency of being pointed. A lot better on the pointy front are the AA Hunters @ 16g & a slightly blunted point, group nearly as well as AA Fields. When all's said, domes will probably be more consistent. Pays yer money & takes yer choice
  2. The answer will probably be different for every type of gun. I've got an underlever that will group passably well with much whatever you put down the spout. However, different weights of pellet will affect the point of aim. AA Fields & Accupels seem to work well in most guns (16g & 14.3 G respectively) but don't seem to move the point of aim that much if you switch from one to the other. I'm not automatically assuming that the SMK ammo is pants (it may work for you) but the majority of comments I've read, from those that tried them are that they are....err...inconsistent. Post your results, I've got a mate with a Cometa Fenix who would be intersted, & so would I.
  3. John Knibbs at Shustoke On the net as Airgunspares but the website is still under construction so phone 01675 481006 they'll give you a price Ex BSA man. If they aint got your spare then no one does Won't be cheap so if you are going to put scopes on it don't bother with the open sites at all.

    silencers

Yup! silencers are now subject to a face to face transaction, so where & what you buy is probably more limited by local availabilty. Weihrauch is good or Logun QGS is a tad better if you want to spend a bit more. This face to face business is loopy, I bought a silencer face to face before Christmas, yet I just bought a mainspring mailorder. You figure which has the greater capabillity to do harm if wrongly used.
  5. Microsoft has an unfortunate anti-competative strategy. If there's a good rival product, buy them out or if you can't, start a competition war which only the company with the biggest resources (Microsoft) will win. Microsoft are not nice people

    ouch

The stuff we know as "superglue" was originally developed to do what you have just used it for. If you ever wondered why it was so good at sticking your finger ends together, that's the reason. A quick way to close wounds without leaving a big scar. Docter Steve says have a tetanus jab every 10 years & keep your nose clean.
  7. There's also the Co2 -v- spring powered argument, with the Cometa being the latter. Buying Co2 bulbs on a regular basis may affect your decision if money is tight. I'm going to stick with my Webley Hurricane which is 27 years old & still shoots like new....they don't make 'em like that anymore. LOL
  8. www.airgunspares.com the site for John Knibbs Site still under construction so phone 'em up What they don't know about BSA guns aint worth mentioning. The serial number should be on the part of the casting of the barrel nearest to the cocking lever pivot. (turn the gun on it's back)
  9. See you've got a Typhoon on your list of guns Mr Relivingmyyouth Hope it's a proper over-lever classic & not the more recent break-barrel ones. Now here's a proper plinking pistol... a Hurricane! Mine's circa 1981 & in reasonably good nick. May just have to get it out of the loft & give it a whirl for the first time in a while.LOL
  10. try this youtube link. there's video of a direct comparison of parker hale, Logun & Weihrauch, so you can judge for yourself.

    S410K

LO Kipper I'm quite near you at Dronfield Any suggestions for local gunshops, even if it's just to get pellets? Feels like a barren gunless wasteland in these parts.
  13. Jeez, it's your liberty. just don't ask me to send you a cake with a file in it
  14. Somehow I don't think "I was shooting" makes out a defence of "reasonable excuse" Reasonable excuse might include transporting the gun from one place to another, or having confiscated it from some lawbreaking miscreant you're on your way to hand it in at a police station. I don't think there is much mileage in a defence of "I was using it to shoot stuff". I think the law is clear, if it's a public place = no shooting If it's a private place you need the owners consent or it becomes an armed trespass.
  15. A quick Google & the internet doth provide Follow the link & your question will be answered. You may need to copy & paste it into your browser. http://www.vandykerifles.com/blueprint.htm
  16. Peter MCN Why not just buy a scope-stop. A little block that clamps on the dovetail behind the rearmost mount. Butt the rear mount against the scope-stop & it can't slide backwards. Keep your zero & the scopes don't slide off under recoil Last one I bought about 15 months ago cost £7 quid
  17. To help relivingmyyouth, Try John Knibbs near Birmingham for a spring They make the Titan XS springs (which is miles better than the Cometa original) & if there isn't an "off the shelf" replacement, send them your spring & they'll take the dimensions & wind you a new one In fact, if you send them your spring guide they will make you a new one of those too, to go with your new spring. Steel, graphited nylon, whatever suits you best. Don't let the airgunspares website put you off, it's still under construction, just phone them.
  18. Forgot to mention, a good material for a shim is a piece of plastic cut from a fabric conditioner bottle or similar. Just sits under the tube in the lower half of the scope mount. Shim the front ring for more downward adjustment or the back ring for more upward adjustment. We use all the best & most expensive materials for this handy hint. LOL
  19. Click on this link & then have a look at the shim guide http://www.charliedatuna.com/AirgunInfo.htm
  20. I have a 3-9x40 scope & more often than not, the zoom is set somewhere betwean 4 & 6x magnification. Anything more without a bipod & the shake / wobble is so magnified, you can't easily hold the crosshairs steady. For a non-FAC rifle you probably won't be shooting at distances that can make much use of the higher magnification anyway. Whilst it's nice to have the flexibility of a zoom I also use a fixed 4x scope & that's perfectly adequate for most situations. If you need 9x magnification to see what you're shooting at below 40 yards then either:- 1) Your eyes are so bad you shouldn't be let loose with a firearm as you are a danger to yourself & even people stood behind you, or 2)You're shooting something so small, you really shouldn't waste good pellets on it (try hitting it with a cricket bat) Just jokin' 6x mag' is fine for most stuff.
  21. There's a sweet spot for pellet weight for sub 12Ft/lb springers, to get the right balance between velocity & knock-down power. For a .22 I reckon it's between 15 & 16 grains. The AA fields or hunters are 16 grains, tho there are tiny weight variations, generally being under rather than over 16 grains. I find both flavours of the AA's work equally well & probably are a little better than Accupels (well for me anyway) The Accupels are about a grain too light (IMO) & don't deform as easily on impact. There are theories that pellets that are too heavy have an adverse effect on the main spring & those that are too light expel too easily & don't allow for a cushion of air to stop the piston slamming into the end of the compression chamber quite so hard. I tend not to use the likes of Milbro Caledonian, cos they're a tad light & tend to "come out a bit lively". The light stuff by AGS is only fit for the old Hurricane pistol in .22
  22. Your not the first person to comment on the "variable quality" of the Cometa main springs. Mate of mine also has the 400 & is well pleased, however. The laws in Spain are a bit strange (country of origin for the Cometa). The springers are designed to run at 20 Ft/Lb or more (legal over there) so when we get them over here there's some kind of lesser / inferior spring in it to keep 'em under 12 Ft/Lb. I don't think they're allowed to shoot game with them over there. So the guns are designed with a bit more power in mind You can pick up a Titan XS spring for under £20 for most makes of gun & they sure don't wear out in a hurry. I'm not advocating anything dodgy in terms of aftermarket springs, just something a bit more consistent & that will last you a year or three.
  23. I didn't think Meteor production had gone beyond the Mk6. Not even according to the chronology on the BSA website. Probably the standard action, but the shape of the stock owes more to the supersport but without the chequering. Still, it's a nice enough lump of wood. Enjoy!
  24. Thank you for your reply Mr Weihrauch Sir, I rather suspected my crude tests were flawed & what you say must be about right Reckon the lube will clean the barrel a bit or maybe stop pellets oxidizing. I'll continue to use it on the basis it'll do no harm but may do a little ( though negligible ) good. Well that & I want to get my 2 quidsworth out of it (tight fisted sod) he he. If you're in Victoria & your post was 1.29 p.m. GMT, I suggest you don't stay up all night answering answering "bone" pommie queries. Get to bed!
