  1. Afternoon all, Are there any shooters local in the North Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and East Yorkshire area that would be open to some company on one of their permissions? I am hoping to find someone who can show me the ropes, how to scope the field, decoy correctly, set up an effective hide etc... I am fully insured and located in Tadcaster North Yorkshire. I am willing to travel up to an hour which gives a huge geographical area I could cover and I know there are plenty of you out there. I am not looking to step on any ones toes, hopefully just find someone that has a permission nearby and is willing to share some of their knowledge with me so hopefully one day when I get my own permission I know what I am doing and the etiquettee etc. I don't mind not shooting but just coming along to learn. If you know anyone that may be worth speaking too let me know via PM, thanks in advance. i should have specified perhaps that I hold a section 2 SGC and looking towards shooting pigeon, corvids, rabbits etc... I don't hold an FAC.
  2. Afternoon all, Are there any shooters local to the Tadcaster area that would be interested in a second gun or sharing any permissions if they are overly busy? Alternatively if anyone in the area would be open to me coming along (no gun) to learn the ropes and help out it would be greatly appreciated. There is so much land around where I live and it would be great to make some new connections in the area. Thanks!
  3. Hi, Park Lodge Shooting school are flogging Power blue 12 bore 28gram, 7 1/2 shot size plastic wad carts at £200 per thousand - £50 a slab. Might make up for the 32p per clay they charge. .Not affiliated with this club in any way.
  4. Hello to all I have recently been granted my SGC and open to meeting and networking with local shooters in the Tadcaster/ York area! I shoot clays up in knaresborough but hoping for some advise on getting in to pigeon shooting in the local area? Look forward to batting with you all
  5. Hello. I usually shoot at Park Lodge near Goole, As a member I pay 22p a clay rather than 30p for non members but I have heard this is going up in April, (25p/31p) - no big deal, but my question is how much does anyone pay in other grounds in North Yorkshire, The only other place I have been to is Monckton where you pay per cartridge but I hear good things about Thimbleby/ Hazel bank too. Cheers N.
  6. Another year passes, members come and go, so... 2 Full or 4 half guns available for safe guns (with dogs) for long established (shoot captain in his 52nd year in the role!) walk/stand syndicate shooting north west of Pickering (North Yorkshire). Wednesday shoot... 2000 birds down, 14 or so Wednesdays (every Wednesday from about 1st November plus maybe a couple of Saturdays if numbers permit (birds remaining and guns wanting to take part)) generally with an extra 'final' day in the last week. Half guns shoot (about) every other week - tweaked a bit to ensure that they get to shoot all the drives. This is a DIY shoot, members expected to put effort in from February through to November preparing pens, checking feeders, releasing birds, watching them grow etc.. Does mean that you are in no doubt that birds are put down – and that you ‘nominally’ know your way around the shoot when the season actually commences (and can therefore guide the guns who have 10 years + in the shoot but still no clue!) Workdays about 1 Wednesday a month. Costs About £770 for half gun, £1350 for full gun. BASC insurance included. Currently about 8 full guns and 12(?) or so half guns Bags in the 60-80 average - but several should break the 100 barrier- particularly in late season. Long established shoot, bossfella has been in charge for more than 50 years! (and I am advertising for him so address questions to me by PM in first place) 16 guns per day, 8 per team. typically 6 drives per day, hot pies after 2nd drive (at a fiver contribution to costs - but this also pays for end of season shoot meal) - shoot through then go to local pub for slap up dinner for about a tenner - guaranteed to include chips! Walk/Stand format, and everyone gets involve with shoot running - average about one workday per month (which are actually quite fun!) and some feed distribution during the season. Shoot has trailer to transport people around rather than a convoy of vehicles. Oh, and we have a couple of clay pigeon days at local 'sporting grounds' one in May, one in September pub after! PM for full details.
