Ozzy Fudd
hi all considering a ruger and quite looking forward to modding it too but i have a few questions re the mods and the difference they make and what do they do different Modified V-Block - dunno, hold the barrel on better?! Auto Bolt Release - excellent piece of kit, get it Target Hammer - dunno, replaces standard hammer, dunot know if its much use Extended Magazine Release - excellent IF youre using high capacity mags, pretty useless for standard mags Bolt Recoil Buffer - a plastic coated one reduces noise of cycling is there any thing else i should be looking at - whatever you want! maybe a trigger kit though thanks john
ProteuS
don't bother with getting an auto bolt release, it's an easy modification to do with a file, and extremely satisfying. i personally havent bothered with an extended mag release, I find it to be easier to remove with my high cap and at least know i wont accidentally drop out a mag. Depending on what you want from it will dictate how much you need to spend. I'm extremley happy with mine, all it has on it is a bolt buffer ( I stoned the trigger a little), auto bolt release that i did myself and the hogue stock that was on it when i got it. With a 1.5-5 scope on top, and a ti25 magasine I'm really quite happy with it. It makes a great bunny basher. If anyone had a 12.5" supressed barrel for one I'd be very tempted to put that on. They are a whole heap of fun, although it seems that some are much better than others. i've had very few problems with ammo cycling, the only annoying thing is pulling the trigger to hear a click when you've emptied the magasine and not realised it. Hulse
thanks mate whats the best trigger or kit is it best to get a complete unit or rework the original etc
Ozzy Fudd
i just got a cheap kit (load of washers, and a couple of small replacement parts) from america, was less than £20 and did the job ok for me - you can get volquartsen kits, but they usually cost £200 or so, nearly as much as i paid for the gun :hmm:
ProteuS
If you want the the best trigger, most people seem to say that the kid unit is at the top of the pile
Glensman
I wouldn't bother with an auto-bolt release unless you're getting TI25 mags, these have high feed lips and it can be easier to stick them in with the bolt back. But I'm quite happy with standard bolt release. As regards extended mag releases they have pluses and negatives, it is easier to release the mag with them and they are a great job that way. However, in a hunting situation if you sling the 10/22 over your back for climbing fences then the mag release sticks into your back. Which is a bit hateful, but thats basically the only downside I've noticed. In my opinion a 10/22 does require some trigger work, it's up to your skills and budget of what to do here. Kidd kits are the best followed by Volquartsen, a much cheaper drop-in unit would be a Ruger one out of a Target model. Although not nearly as good as the 2 previously mentioned they are a big step forward from the standard trigger unit. Recoil buffers are well worth their money, I like the Tuffer-Buffer. There's no need for a modified V-block unless your planning on messing around with barrels? As Babby said you can buy parts for them separately, it kinda depends on how far you want to go. I just had a Volquartsen unit posted to me today, but I got it WAY under the retail. My family are back and forward from the states regularly so it makes customising them a LOT of fun Edited October 5, 2009 by Glensman
MC
hi all considering a ruger and quite looking forward to modding it too but i have a few questions re the mods and the difference they make and what do they do different Modified V-Block Auto Bolt Release Target Hammer Extended Magazine Release Bolt Recoil Buffer is there any thing else i should be looking at thanks john John, I have a 10/22 completely standard out of the box except the auto bolt release. This is the only modification I would make as the release lever is a pin in the ****, especially when it is cold. The later rugers have the exended mag release as standard, Target hammer is a waste of money. I have no idea why they sell a modified v block or even why it is modified, mine has not broken, fallen off or anything else. The recoil buffer is one thing I keep meaning to do but have never got around to ordering it. I wouldn't do anything to the trigger until you have tried it for a while. I don't have any issues with mine, OK it isn't as light or crisp as my Anschutz target rifle but then it never will be. Hope that helps
