Real meat mincemeat

While making space in the garage for our 45 jars of tomato chutney and searching out suitable jars for pickling our shallots I came across a kilner jar or real meat mincemeat I made about 5 or so years ago.

I haven't opened it yet and there is no signs of any mould (and so there shouldn't be with the amount of alcohol that went into it). I'm curious to know whether it would still be safe for consumption? It hasn't seen the light of day since I put it there all that time ago so apart from the odd changes in seasonal temperature it has remained reasonably cool and hasn't been opened at all.

I'd appreciate it if anyone with a similar experience or superior knowledge would be able to shed some light onto it's suitabilty for consumption.

Regards,

Doc.

Well that was my thinking but the fact it has minced beef in there was my concern but the alcohol should have preseved it fine (or not). As you say the nose test will probably be the first approach and if that's ok then I'll get the other half to run a few off. Hopefully I won't be needing the services of the kent ambulance service.

Have to say though Henry that 5 years for a chutney is a bit extreme. They're lucky if they see 5 months in my house, hence the overkill this year with 45 jars of smokey tomato chutney  Should see us through to next year :D

My point exactly, we make a lot and when it`s gone it`s gone, however there usually is a jar lurking in the back of a cupboard :D
