crow decoys/pigeon decoys

I would have thought that a random spread would surfice. However 'Black-uns' do tend to have there own distinguished lines, but are easily persuaded in, by 'black' deeks on the ground.

As mentioned, as a lad, I used to use 4 or 5 black socks full of straw, tied with laggy bands, and these brought them in treat.

If the pigeon traffic dries up, then a couple of rooks on the rotary will work to good effect if you are in the right spot.

p.t.c. When I use crow deacs. along side pigeon ones, I put them to one side of the pigeons in a random group of their own.

Have had some great days when shooting on stubble that both pigeons and crows are using and the more crows you shoot and add to your pattern the better it gets.

Been doing some crow decoying myself lately and found that i just put out about 12 shell pigeons in a u shape and 5 crow deaks (thats all i have) spread around the outside 3 to 4 yards away from shells i find that works a treat. As i read somewhere that crows do not like to feed among pigeons anyhow it workes last time out i got about 30 + 5 woodies.

PTC don`t put your crow deeks down wind of your pigeon deeks because the pigeons won`t fly over them!!

Put them in a random group up wind and watch how the pigeons react to them. If one pigeon flares then move the crow deeks a bit farther away.

If you shoot enough rooks to make a pattern leave a killing ground in the middle as you would with pigeons. You`ll find that crow shooting is more leisurely than pigeons. They generally flap slowly in and sometimes caw to let you know they are there. They often come in from all directions, not intending to land, so lazy old crossing shots are often the norm with the odd one from directly behind. They will sit in a tree out of sight and a crow call will entice them in. Don`t call too much and stop when a bird looks interested. A dropped crow will often bring in others very quickly so duck down and be ready.
