CollioureII
Getting my springer pup soon...already have a German Shepherd that has the run of the place, my house is out the country lots of fields around and the German Shepherd has a free rein but never really wanders far from the house. The GS is a nice dog loves to play, goes mad when she sees ya putting on your coat to go for walk, is soft / obedient dog and does not have care in the world However I am now ready to get my springer pup and my main concern is how I'm going to manage with the German shepherd.....say for example on walks (not training) I can't let the springer off with the German shepard running around messing around etc...how can I expect the springer to carry differently in my one to one training sessions a day? So my plan is Have the springer in a run all day, I will take it for a walk in the morning when I bring the GS for a walk ....should I keep the on a lead here / leave it run around with the GS or what....please advise? Come home for lunch at 1 o'clock, lock the GS in the run and have a 10 minute training session with the springer (assume springer is older the 7 mths)...then springer back into run and GS left out. Home at around 6 or 7 ish, I have a flood light for front garden...maybe a 10 min session with th springer...if not a walk with the GS So what do people think...what are the main bit falls when you have one dog as family pet and another as gun dog??? Lloyd90
Can't the shepherd do some training ? Im sure it wouldn't hurt to train obedience Edited October 14, 2009 by Bigthug87
rickyspringer
I would personally have the springer in a run, train the two dogs seperately, I would only walk them together when the Springer has some good obedience instilled. It would be so easy for the Springer to turn out like your GS, which would be detrimental in training a gundog, free reign is no good for a Springer problems would be endless. It sounds like you have an idea with what your going to do, stick to it and be sensible regarding excercising both together. Good Luck and keep us informed on how it goes, get some images up aswell when you get the pup. Regards RS
