M ROBSON
Here's something that doesn't happen every day! I went out during the week on one of our farms to stalk a buck, we've shot Pigeons on there for a while but not the deer. The farmer sees them as a pest and just wants a bit of meat in payment, a familiar story in these parts. :o My dad had spotted a nice Buck with a Doe in the middle of a swathed Rape field last week when arriving to set a shooter up, he actually drove past them at 100 yards and they didn't bother. So I headed down to the farm and when I spoke to the farmer he said there was also a Buck and Doe in a barley field next to a fir strip wood, two days ago while he was combining the field, they were there all day just popping in and out of the wood while he was in the field! Needless to say I never saw a single thing in the 4 hours before dark. :o Yesterday my dad headed back down to the farm with 3 Danish shooters after the Pigeons, one of them was set up on the swathed rape that my dad spotted the deer in last week and was getting some shooting. He had been their 3 hour banging away when he spotted the bucks head pop up from between the swathed Rape in the middle of the field, about 200 yards out. It was there with the Doe and wasn't bothered with the guys shooting at all! My dad went down to see how they were doing later and the buck was still there so he headed back up to the house and got his rifle. When he went back down the buck was still in the middle of the field with the Doe so he stalked it and shot it at about 60 yards, a nice medal class buck! Despite one shooter bagging 45 Pigeons in the same field and another banging away on another Rape field next to it and another guy two field over on a barley stubble, the deer weren't bothered at all. I'll get hold of the pictures and post them up soon. Has anyone ever experienced anything like this before? Mark.

M ROBSON
I'll let him off with it Adam. :o Took the head down to get provisionally scored and it weighed in at 602g, with 10% taken off for moisture loss and 90g for the upper jaw it scored 126.8 CIC points, a silver medal. It's quite likely it won't loose 10%, the East Fife bucks are very dense and the very dark colouring indicates it's probably been out of velvet since February which means the antler is well dead now. Cheers, Mark.

Elma Fud
Well done on the buck :o Thats a good deep colouring he's got. I've also seen deer in standing crops whilst out pigeon shooting. They almost seem to know that there is no risk to them and appear to be un-interested in whats going on just a couple of hundred yards away. Unlucky with your score. A rough rule of thumb over 600g is a potential gold medal. But still a good score. :o EF
M ROBSON
My dad was invited out this morning to the same ground I shot my gold medal buck on earlier this year and bagged himself this nice buck, It isn't a massive head but the coronets and teeth show its a fairly old animal. Cheers, Mark.
henry d
Hi Mark,I had a similar incident when the barley was drilled this spring.I was shooting close to the A9 north of Perth and after a dozen or so birds I hit a bird but it started to walk after it hit the ground and as the dog was unavailable that week due to a torn pad I got up and ran after it and 10yds to my right a pair of does got up as I was about to shoot the bird. However I also witnessed the biggest fallow I`ve ever seen, get up 30yds behind a line of guns when we went to pick up at the end of the drive, you could have dug a trench with the size of palms this laddie had.
