Hiya mate, Ive had several AA 400 series rifles and they are very easy to strip, repair etc, it sounds to me that you probally have a fleck of dirt on the exhaust valve seating, an easy way of checking it out is to charge the rifle with air, then close the bolt, and then put the end of the barrel into thin oil or water, if its your valve leaking you will see right away because bubbles will be seen , ???

PCP's are, so I am told, prone ot dirt/ water ingress and this can effect the valve seals. Of ocurse it could just be other seals that are letting by - nothing lasts for ever these days!

My suggestion is, that unless you know what you are doing and feel confident about it, get somone else to service the airgun - just my personal view.

Cheers.

would the fact that im pressurising it with a hills piump make any difference?

I did use a hills pump at one stage when charging my FAC version of this model :good: .........................Alot of heat and moisture is generated which will cause problems over a certain time period . I believe a moisture eliminator is now fitted to this pump .I charge off a divers bottle nowadays

it could be as simple as a little dirt on the filler probe.is it the older type with the ball bearing? if it is empty tthe gun of air and force the ball bearing in and out a few times before refilling.if not that try a balloon over the barrel overnight.my s400 leaked from the filler and also the pressure gauge.i took the stock off and dropped it in a bath of water. don`t get the trigger assembly wet.you may see a few bubbles.i oiled my gun well before doing this and cleaned it again after.only cost me a few quid to fix.
