hitfreshairagain
ok guys so i have another problem lol.. I was zeroing my scope today at 30 yds and the grouping was quite good (well for me any way) however the scope(hawke sr6) is on its very last click of the elevation and cant go up anymore.do you think its a good idea to shim the scope to atleast give me room for corrections ie different pellets ect.If so am i shimming at the back of the scope or the front also how many layers of film negative would you recomend,. Many thanks Lee
cooter
If you have used all the raise elevation then the front mount would have to be shimmed. It is OK to use all the adjustment as that is what it is there for, but if you want something to play with then shim it. I would lift the front by around 1.5mm and give it another go. Steady
Hi Lee, If the gun is shooting high, you'll need to pack the front mount.Just use one piece of film to start.I'd swap the mounts around first to see if that cures the problem. bruno22rf
Set the scope in the middle of its adjustment range by counting the total amount of clicks from max up to max down-divide by 2 to find the centre.Screw the scope back on the gun and fire 2-3 rounds at about 10 yards.Use a piece of cartridge case or similar to pack whichever mount to bring the gun on aim-if you need more than 2 thicknesses of cartridge i'd say something is wrong (unless you've got a weirauch model with a drooping barrel). It is not o.k. to use a scope with most of the adjustment taken up cos you are looking through the edge of the front lens where quality is likely to be somewhat less than in the centre. hitfreshairagain
Hi guys thanks for all you replys, but im still somewhat confused. My point of impact is if anything slightly low but im at the end of the adjustment so do i not shim at the rear of the one peice mount as to point the scope down toward the poi. Also i do have a weirauch hw90 but not sure what you ,ean by drooping barrel could you please explain. Really apreciate all your help. bruno22rf
No worries Lee-pop the gun upright on a table and crouch down till you can look along the main body of the gun from the stock towards the muzzle-get your eye in a position so that you can see along the top edge-then move your head sideways and see if the barrel is in alignment with the action-im guessing its pointing downwards-most weirauchs are-shim the rear mount to compensate or enquire at your local dealer if speciel mounts are available.Dont worry cos its quite normal. hitfreshairagain
Thank you so much Bruno your post has helped me alot and i will check for the droop tommorow. So just to confirm i shim the rear of the scope and that will give me more room to raise the poi. Thanks gain Lee
bruno22rf
In an ideal world your scope should be perfectly parrallell to the barrel-with your gun the rear mount needs 1 or maybe 2 half round slices of 12 bore cartridge case under the scope tube at the rear mount. :good:Some companies i.e. Beeman make mounts specifically for the weirauch range+make sure your mount has the arrestor pin fitted or you will find your eye and scope becoming good friends.
